Quote:
Following an awfully obvious teaser trailer, Lionhead has announced that yes, it's jazzing up the original Fable for re-release on Xbox 360 this holiday season. Fable Anniversary, as it's called, boasts updated models and textures and lighting and 1080p support, along with more of the usual "remaster" sorts of things.

Fable Anniversary will boast improved controls, a new UI, a better save system, achievements, and speeds up loading times, the announcement explains. It also includes the extra content from the extended 'The Lost Chapters' edition, obviously.

It'll also boast SmartGlass support, lead designer Ted Timmins told Microsoft's Larry Hryb in a podcast, including taking screenshots and showing the map.

My best fable games list is Fable 2, Fable 1 and far in the back Fable 3 (the only good thing about 3 was the technical aspect -- smoother framerate and cleaner look than Fable 2). So I'm really interested if this plays like Fable 1 or Fable 2. If there are those elements from Fable 2 in here, like the dog for instance.

Either way, really excited for this one. It might turn out to be a best of both worlds (Fable 1 and 2) or it might just be a remake to a good game. Very Happy

LE: Fuck smartglass, it's not available in my country's appstore. Having the map (and maybe the inventory?) on a second display sounds really nice, especially for a game like Fable where the lack of a proper map was always an annoying issue, at least for me. Sad

You should play Fable 2.

It has some rough edges -- like I said, Fable 3 is technically improved, with a smoother framerrate and cleaner look that it's predecessor -- but it lacks gameplay wise and feels very streamlined.

I can see how from the perspective of a newcomer, or if you only played Fable 1, Fable 3 might seem like a competent sequel/game. But it's just not a proper evolution of the series based on Fable 2 (and 1), and for the people that played Fable 2, Fable 3 feels like a big step backwards.

Hehe... sorry.. something about the (first two at least...) really struck a chord with me. I think the only person that enjoyed Fable as much as me, or possibly even more, would be hfric. If memory serves; he's a big Fable fan too.

That too, you can never be sure whether hfric is telling the truth about stuff, but still ... admitting to liking Fable is hardly something worth lying about Very Happy Fable/Fable 2 are great!

Well, Trolls used to be a big part of Fable (1 and 2), so now you know. Laughing

Holy crap that looks great! They even give you the option to switch between Fable 1 and Fable 2 control schemes! Surprised
Man, these microsoft studios know how to make proper remakes, too bad the mother company is going through a identity crisis with the XBO. Sad

Also that smart glass thing looks really neat, too bad it's not available everywhere. :/

I thought they were just referring to the stuttering/hitching? It was running "smooth" outside those instances, but 30fps smooth; same as Fable 2.

I can't believe I had shoved this game aside for such a long time. I remember playing the initial bits of the PC version and being quite impressed, but then something better came along and I got carried away. I'll probably look into this once all the GTA V ride is complete. Thanks for the reminder though.

BTW do you need to be familiar with the first 2 games to enjoy 3?

I liked halo anniversary so I like those kind of exact same remakes.

Fable1 was the only good and playable fable so bring it on Razz

Nope. Same with #2 vs #1 as well, because while they're all tied via the same plot... they are still entirely standalone games set many, many years apart.

Read about this getting delayed last friday, on EG. Disappointed, as I was really looking forward to this one. Sad

God damn it! February it is then, hope they make use of that extra time and polish this.

I'm just hoping Lionhead aren't being dominated by Microsoft and that F:A does come to PC where it belongs Sad As much as I loved F2, going back to it now is really tough... far too much bloom and the framerate is horrible Sad

\o/

Framerate still looks terrible though, which is a huge stepdown from the 60 in F1. I guess switching to the F2 engine has its drawbacks .. again... please come to PC sooner rather than later (or at all)

I freakin loved Fable: TLC! Still jizzing while thinking about it. So Much Win

Fable 2 was also very good but wtf were they thinking when they vomited on the franchise and release the third one?? Soooo being sceptical about this release, I'm just too scared to have my heart ripped out again.

I don't think I can ever love again..

Well they said they're not changing anything, this will be Fable TLC in all its glory - just ported and "improved" in a new engine. Additional DLC/questing/etc will come later but the base game is the base game and that's a firm YAY from me Very Happy
