Breakdown:

Quote:
We know that it's going to be released on the current generation of consoles, and that its dark, epic fantasy tone will match that of previous Souls games.

From Software's Tomohiro Shibuya and Hidetaka Miyazaki touched on some of the questions that fans have been wondering about most, including the new engine, the direction that the story will take and the layout of Dark Souls II's world.

Miyazaki, who served as director for both Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, has assumed a more advisory role for Dark Souls II. Shibuya has stepped in as game director. In an interview with Famitsu earlier this week, the two reassured fans that they won't be abandoning the core of Dark Souls—the dark fantasy, the difficulty, etc. In this latest chat, they reaffirmed those points.

But on to the news: judging by Google's mangled attempt to translate the interview, it seems that Dark Souls II will be running on a "new graphics engine" that Shibuya helped build internally at From Software. It's unclear whether the new engine will affect gameplay, but Shibuya seems to stress that the game's graphics will benefit the most from it. He mentions some middleware is still in use as well, though doesn't seem to get into specifics.

Shibuya also seems to confirm that though Dark Souls II will be set in the same universe as Dark Souls, it won't be a direct sequel in terms of story. And it seems the world—the physical map—of Dark Souls II will stay faithful to the precedent that Dark Souls set, with a large, detailed, interconnected map rather than something more open like a traditional RPG.

The moment they said 2014 a part of me died and I wanted to go into hibernation. Was hoping for a Q4 2013 release. Sad

For some reason the gameplay video's never do justice to this preeminent game.

I never forget booting my Asian copy of Demon Souls and feeling such frustration that games in this genre were overlooked and never developed. Demon Souls wasn't even going to be published in the UK/US nor Europe, Atlus were really surprised when it did so well on import and quickly arranged UK/US localised releases.

I cannot wait for Dark Souls 2, to me is the best gaming experience bar none.

yea back then i ordered an asian version of demons souls from kowloon before the us version came out, luckily full game was in english and i could play online.
it was an experience like no other, and i was so happy to see that dark souls wasnt dumbed down even one bit, but actually improved and expanded in a very positive way.

We were SO lucky that Atlus included English subs in the Asian release and they showed real class by casting superb British talent.

After all the moaning and whining by poor players about the difficulty I was expecting Atlus to roll over but no, they stuck with the plan and the resulting product was game of the year.

Dark Souls 2 is the reason why i regret selling my PS3 after getting my PS4. Then again i was expecting to play this on PC so no big deal but...if Dark Souls is any indication the game is going to be filled with hackers and exploiters. That's much less of an issues with consoles

Anyway Sony and MS need to get their head out of their asses and launch this on PS4 and XB1 ASAP
