http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/threads/791878-G2-Mod-Real-Weapons (havent tested but seems good)

make sure you have a good computer if you want to run my mod though, i doubt it would run well on most laptops for example.

@vurt: is it technically impossible to change the character models? I wonder why no one modded it.

Dark Mysteries adds some nice changes ( it's a bit like Night of The Raven for G2 ) to the graphics. New trees, patch, textures, etc.

No not really, the engine has a polygon limit per object, so you couldnt change them that much. The characters are around 1,200 polys and if i remember correctly the limit is 1,500 polygons per oject.

There's a G2 total conversion with a feature list which looks incredibly impressive ("The Returning"). Unfortunately, it's russian and there's only a google-translate english patch available at the moment.

vurt you seem to be the specialist on this... any way of running the game in win7x64 @ 60fps?
I remember trying an unlocker mod but having so problems with it Sad

The FPS shouldnt be locked, at least it's not something i've experienced. I'm running w7 x64, my FPS varies a lot (with my mod installed) from around 30 to 60.

But is that normal? Confused

I managed to unlock it with some mod and it ran@ 60fps on my laptop under XP but with W7x64 the mod didn't work... or the game didn't ran correctly, can't remember which.

So I thought it was some incompatibility with that mod... right?

I googled it, there's a unlock mod for Gothic 1, for G2 you shouldnt need one..

And yes for demanding games the FPS will vary a lot, without mods it should run at an almost constant 60 FPS.. The G2 engine is not very performance friendly, for example it doesnt have 2D LOD's for the trees like new games, they're rendered at almost full resolution even miles away from the player.. Modded it's probably a more demanding game than a new game like Far Cry 3 in many cases, strange as it may seem.

Wow Surprised
And the mod I was using was for Gothic 1.

Guess I'll finally give the games a shot as soon as I'm done with Risen 2 Very Happy

I guess a better example would be Risen 1-2 hehe, since they're still using the same engine, but now more optimized (hell, even consoles can run it Very Happy ).

For g1 and 2 I just instlaled the latest community patch and all is good.

there was a gothic 2 grass and trees mod for g1, but it didn't fit in too well. too bright compared to the pale and brownish rest of the game.

this is why I rarely install any graphics mods. SHTUP for ss 2 is pretty much the only authentic graphics mod. it updates, but in a way that's unnoticeable.

this is why its so good. the actual difference is huge when you compare before and after shots, but the texture upgrade itself is just a high definition carbon copy of the old texture.
you can see comparison shots at

http://www.shtupmod.net/images.html

gothic 2 grass modded onto gothic 1 looks really strange. the color is too bright in comparison to the rest of the stuff like characters, architecture, etc.
