“I’m super excited about starting Terraria 2. It’s a ways out, but it’s gonna have a lot in common with the original. It’s gonna be quite different as well. I really want to expand on the whole Terraria universe.”
“There’s a lot of stuff I’m locked into with Terraria. The way loot works, the way character progression works. In Terraria 2, I really want to have infinite worlds so you’re not just stuck to one world. You can travel anywhere. I want more biome diversity in that, too. There’s a lot of stuff [I want to add and change].”
I don't really understand the point of this when Starbound is coming, but whatever...
Why should Chucklefish's game affect re-Logic's decision to make another Terraria? At least both games will have competition, not letting them get complacent.
Anyhow, should provide some decent distraction while waiting for Starbound.
It shouldn't, but I still find it pointless. Why would I want another game that I bet will be pretty much the same as Starbound, because any other way than moving forward with this formula.
Really enjoying v1.2, one of the most addicting games i've played since, well, forever almost.
Saying Terraria and Starbound is enough because you can't move forward seems kind of stupid.. That's like saying we only need two racing games, two FPS games etc.. This type of game has FAR more possiblities too, there are TONS of ways to improve and expand the formula.
Good thing you brought up racing games. There are a lot of sims coming out now and just like here I find that pointless, because I will only play one. This is how things seem from MY point of view, so I can understand why others don't feel the same, but that doesn't change how I feel. Now, of course, I like more racing games, but each should be different enough that it's kind of in a different subgenre. Now, of course this genre can also split into different subgenres, but as far as I'm seeing these two are not in different subgenres, they're going the exact same path (unless Terraria 2 is nothing like the first Terraria, which would make me go "Why is it named Terraria?!" in that case). That's why I find this pointless.

since you represent the entire gaming-community on this small planet, you should mail the developers of the games you will not touch,so they can work on something else or drop their job and start flipping burgers

Set in an alternate dimension within the Terraria universe, Terraria: Otherworld places the player in a life-and-death struggle to restore a once-pristine world – now overrun by a malevolent force that has corrupted nature itself – to its original splendor. Along with a rag-tag band of survivors, will you be able to successfully harness the power of an array of weaponry, magic, defenses, and even the world itself to thwart the designs of this unseen evil?
Combining the experience of sandbox gameplay with role-playing and strategy elements, Terraria: Otherworld explores the Terraria experience in an innovative and unique way - providing a fresh approach to the “open world” genre.
Already looking better than Starbound for the simple fact they are giving the player a reason to play: "places the player in a life-and-death struggle to restore a once-pristine world".
fingers crossed we don't see any hipster bullshit unicorns, mustaches and other useless shit for 3-4 years.
Yeey, let's do three types of the same game. No wonder the 1.3 Update didn't arrive yet and won't this month either. It looks great, but I don't see the point of doing this over Terraria 2 (whatever their plan for that is, name and concept are the only known thing so far).
@AmpegV4 One sentence is enough to call a game better by a trailer? Starbound has actual quests and for it's early stage at least some kind of goal. Sooo yeah from the description it's basically Terraria with updated graphics, so much for 'reasons'.
I hadn't realized it, but Otherworld was originally going to release in 2015. That's, uh, not happening. "Simply put, the game is not ready yet -- as we laid out in the beginning, we will only launch a game when we feel it meets our standards as a finished product," said Re-Logic's Loki. "Terraria: Otherworld hasn't reached that point yet, though very strong progress has been made."
Yeah pretty much. Anyway, I will probably play Otherworld because it's Terraria, but it kind of irks me it looks like your generic sidescroller like many others on Steam, sure pretty graphics, but that's what most of them have. Likely will have more fun with Terraria 2.
