Harro,
i can't get this thing to work and it bugs me (love that game).
It installs fine but refuses to do anything after installation.
Tried setting every compatiblity setting that is available but it just won't load, short blackscreen and back 2 desktop.
Anyone got it to work somehow or got more info on this topic?

Try installing Windows XP inside the latest VMWare Workstation (don't forget to install VMWares drivers INSIDE the virtual machine, to get video and audio accelerated) and run the game in it.

While this may be worth a try, won't that run like total shit?

Not really. I mean it's all game specific, but Direct3D support in VMware and VirtualBox is now way better than it was some years ago, and we are talking about a 11 year old game.

And what about right click properties compatibility, disabling visual themes, desktop composition etc? And good old explorer.exe killing, .bat file with the following content:
taskkill /F /IM explorer.exe
GameExe.exe
start explorer.exe
This is usefull for DirectX games, but might also help here, together with the first advice.

Maybe it's because of the graphics driver. I heard that newer Nvidia drivers have problems with DirectX 7 and older games.

Fooled around with it,used that .bat from Guy but nothing helps. This game refuses to cooperate with W7 (at least on my box).
Didn't find my XP copy yet so i can't comment on that VM solution

Strange I don't use any compatability settings at all. I do use a custom install DVD with the 1.09 patch and crack integrated.

I actually installed this the other day for a lan and it works fine on Win 7 x64.
The only thing I need is a patch for 1920*1080 but it worked fine straight off the bat for me.

in my case i figure it out why this game would not start , it takes your desktop resolution as game resolution if its to high and not compatible with the game setting this game will not run and crash but if its 1024x768 it runs fine !!! on win7 x64 without any patches !!!
