First of all, I'm still not sure of where to post this, but after a few things I'll elaborate later, this seems the more appropriate. OK then:

My laptop screen seems to "flicker" completely at random. By flicker I mean: the screen seems to be turning off, going to what seems total blackness, or at least failing, but does it fast and randomly that I can't be sure if it's the screen itself, if it's the software or even the hardware.
It's really hard to explain to be honest. Only witnessing the thing to understand I believe.

The laptop is at my desk, barely moves, besides maybe when typing and such, and I have now no other monitor attached to it.

Anyway, I tried different graphic drivers, going back to when I knew didn't had the problem, and nothing. Plus, in between having any graphical drivers installed, it happened again, so I guess we can rule out the GPU, right?

I goggled and changed a setting that had something to do with desktop management, and the issue persisted. I rocked my laptop back and forward, and also tilted the screen to see if it was some bad connection, and it did not flicker at all, so I guess it only leaves the software as the culprit. I changed a lot of settings in the nVidia panel, even knowing it probably had nothing to do with it. And nothing, still having the issue.

I updated the wireless driver, and everything for that matter, and I was still having the issue.

And my last modification was changing the power plan from moderate to high performance. I once again, tried to trigger the issue by using the laptop as I usually do. It hasn't happed for maybe four hours, I was feeling confided I resolved it, when the minute I started typing this, it started happening again.

What could it be? The problem it's the randomness of it. If I knew what triggers it, I could try to pin point the issue.
I know I could boot up a live-CD, or plug another monitor, but I don't wanna spend hours, or even days waiting for the glitch to happen.

So, any thoughts? Sad

The screen's power thingy may be going out of whack.

(Hard to test, but does it happen in safe mode ?)

No idea. And due to the randomness of the thing, even if I boot up in safe mode to check it, it could prove nothing, because sometimes it only happens with days in between. I would have to spend countless hours monitoring it rendering it useless, in the hopes of seeing it happen. Sad

Maybe the contacts on laptops mobo are screwed up. I'd bring my laptop to customer service (if you have warranty) and let them examine it...

my sister had a similiar problem with her asus laptop. The monitor was balcking out randomly for reaally short intervals but on a daily basis. Drivers/format didnt help, brought it to tech support and the monitor seemed to be at fault and it got repaired.

Shit. It's already out of the warranty.

I guess that if the situation aggravates, I'll first try fix it myself (see if everything is firmly connected and stuff) and if it stays the same I guess I'll have to have it repaired. Sad

I'm not sure if this is your issue but what GPU does it have. There's been issues in the past with gpu's going into 2D mode and not getting enough power or something causing the flicker.

GeForce G105 M by nVidia.

But I just saw an example of flickering due to the 2D mode problem (), and my flickering is completely different.
