WOW! The conversation I just had while changing my broadband package. I asked to get rid of my TV and landline phone as I don't need them and don't want them anymore. She first lied to me telling me the broadband on it's own would cost more than £5 of what it is advertised at on their official site. Then she starts telling me how great it could be if kept my phone line, because she could give me the TV for free. Rolling Eyes I interrupted her and said that I don't want it, and she tells me to be quiet and listen to what she has to say. Laughing I asked to downgrade my internet speed from 60mb to 30mb and she advised against it, as I am a heavy user and I might get problems with buffering on Youtube and stuff Laughing! She was just really bitchy. No commission for you. haha. I made it very clear (and I was polite) when I first spoke to her that I didn't want the TV or phone line anymore.

Edit: Oh, I forgot, she said they need to collect the TV box. I asked what exactly they need to collect and she said the TV box, the remote and the HDMI cable. I said "HDMI cable?", she said yes, it is an HDMI box and it should of come with a cable. I said, no, I had my own HDMI cables, and she said in a funny tone "right, ok then". Fucking bitch thought I was lying.

I guess someone didn't get laid last night Laughing God, I hate dealing with bitchy and irritating service reps. Yes.. we understand being a service rep is a thankless and tough job but it's still your job - at the very least you could take it out on the asshole customers, not the polite ones.

I'm hoping they send me a survey, like they usually do after speaking to them, so I can send them my thoughts on their bad service.

Hahah, I wonder if all the people who I patched through to our winback department suffered the same Laughing

Also, just because you had your own HDMI cables doesn't mean one didn't come with their box. You better send it back, you thief Wink

Laughing
I'm pretty certain I wasn't given a HDMI cable. I remember someone else getting VM at the time and they mentioned they got a free HDMI cable, and I was a bit pissed that I didn't. But I did have a few just lying around so the person installing it probably just thought I didn't need one.

I looked at some other providers but I think VM are the cheapest after considering the phone line you need for the others... For me anyway, considering I only want broadband.

I don't always get 60mb speeds. When I was on 30 I would always get 30mb.. So yeah, I can live with 30. It's all I need, really. Smile

Hehe some years ago I was a salescoach at a big internet firm and I would sit and listen to calls from the sales- and customer service department. There was this one girl that half the time, if the customer was just mildly annoyed, go in crazy mode and have loud arguments with the customers about the smallest things. It was normal she would cry in anger atleast once a week - and to my best of knowledge she stills works there.

Funny thing is - the company had fired all the good old customer supporters and just replace them with teens, that then had to mainly sell stuff - so the customer support part was nearly just for show. When they had problems, it was often the customer service person just ended up hanging up and then the customer with the problems had to phone back to a new person etc.

But dont blame the people on the phone, blame the company for hiring them.

Good customer service people really should be paid big money - instead it is the scum of the earth that gets employed there on minimum wages.

^ semi-truth.

Same happened where I worked. Experienced people who actually helped customers and knew what they were doing, who helped others that just started there were often fired and replaced with people fresh out of training. I hope I managed to teach them some things before I left, but definitely not as much as the others would've been able to. Now that everyone I knew doesn't work there anymore, the newbies are supposed to teach the newer-newbies.. Can only end well.

They are also meant to offer upgrades to every customer calling in like you mentioned. That's at technical support, mind you. People who don't have internet/tv/phone at the moment. Needless to say, they are not all that interested Laughing.
Personally, I never even asked the question. Got a lot of flak for practically never making sales, and for taking too long with my calls. But the customers at least were positive, which is what I thought was more important.
Eventually I left on my own accord, when they upped their game by having obligatory status-conversations with auditors who listen to your calls and tell you what you already know but don't care about.

I said semi-truth, because I didn't consider myself to be scum of the earth Wink. I liked keeping my agreements with customers, call them back when I tell them I will, stuff like that. Not everyone did.. "sure, I'll just reset this and call you back" .. *press reset* .. *accept next call and never look back*. Tho they did pay me minimum wage.
At least I know what ISP I'll never join. Though I'm sure its almost the same everywhere..

Had a call yesterday from VM about recently changing my package. The lady on the phone offered me what I asked for, the 30mb broadband and said she could give me my phone line for free AND drop the price on the bb. £20.40 per month for the bb and phone. Very Happy

That wouldn't happen to be KPN, would it? They're the only ones I've had to deal with that pretty much did everything you and Doh! described. Ziggo haven't called even once with any of this horseshit and the one time we had a serious outage in the last 3 years, there were two engineers working on it a few hours later. Need to note that we can't get anything besides KPN and Ziggo down here though, so perhaps UPC, Tiscali etc. are just as bad.

KPN, never again. They can come with their Fiber here, unless they offer it for free I still don't want it after what they pulled; and I'll keep the damn Ziggo line anyway.

From what I hear, VM are much the same; on the other hand, proper broadband coverage is shit in the UK anyway. I've got a friend who lives up near the Scottish border, all he can get is an "up to 20 Mbps" connection and he's happy if he gets to 4 Neutral

That is exactly what I was offered after trying to get rid of my landline, not too shabby really.

When you get the letter read it carefully as its not a lifetime offer, 18 months I think, but after that you can cancel again anyway. rinse/repeat.

Sad So they are giving this deal to everyone then.. Now I don't feel special. Laughing

I was told it is a 12 month contract, so hopefully it isn't 18 months. The shorter the better, because there should be better deals by then. Smile
