Explore a vast underground ocean in your customised steamship! A PC & Mac game in glorious 2D from the creators of Fallen London.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/failbetter/sunless-sea

This could be interesting, pirate game with trading and exploration.

Your insults will do nothing to blunt the agonies of your demise.

Greenlight: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=235256256
Early Access date (Humble Bundle store): 17th June 2014
Quote:
Take the helm of your customised steamship and set sail for the unknown! Sunless Sea is a 2D game of discovery, survival and loneliness set in the award-winning Victorian Gothic universe of Fallen London.

Will you succumb to madness and cannibalism on the black waters? Or return home triumphant with a hold full of precious loot?

Your choices determine the events of every game. Will you free the colonies of the Carnelian Coast, or keep them in the Empire’s grip? Will you sell your soul to the Wistful Deviless or spurn her advances? Can you best the sinister golden agents of the Dawn Machine?

You are the captain. It’s your call.

"We want to combine the the sense of danger you get from roguelike games such as Don't Starve and FTL with the rich storytelling engine we've perfected in Fallen London," says Failbetter's CEO Alexis Kennedy. "So while the unexplored areas of the map will shuffle every time you play, there will always be deep and choice-filled stories to discover."

Key Features

  • A huge open map that changes every time you play
  • A deep, compelling world packed with secrets and stories
  • Beautiful, hand drawn 2D art
  • Light and dark. Stray too far from the gas-lamps of civilisation and your crew will grow fearful and eventually lose their sanity. But there is treasure out there in the darkness…
  • Leave a legacy! When you die (and you will) your next captain may choose to inherit a skill, a chart of discovered islands or a beloved officer.
  • Upgrade your steamship with powerful engines, flensing cannons, and pneumatic torpedo guns. Or just buy a bigger, better ship.
  • Hire unique officers like the Haunted Doctor and the Irrepressible Cannoneer. Each has a story to tell, if you can draw it out of them.
  • Choose from a menagerie of ship’s mascots: the Comatose Ferret, the Wretched Mog, the Elegiac Cockatoo, and more!
  • Trade silk and souls, mushroom wine and hallucinogenic honey. Seek out the most profitable hidden trade lanes.
  • Lose your mind
  • Eat your crew

KS backers and those that preordered via Humble widget get temporary exclusivity, as far as I know, though everyone still gets a Steam key. I'm still waiting for someone to upload the build Smug

Naw, just a screwup with the Humble keys. It was fixed really quickly Smile Steam purchasers always had the date as 1st of July, it was only KS/Humble backers that get it on the 17th of June.

Quote:
The narrative-driven roguelikey game from the developers of Fallen London is to be declared as 'finished' on the 6th of February, seven months after its Early Access period started.

The launch will coincide with one final update, named Pearl, that will "complete the major storylines. Gameplay will be finessed, and we’ve added a couple of little flourishes that we think you’ll like". You'll also be able to buy the game from GOG.com at that point, if you prefer your aquatic adventures DRM-free.

Given the state of games today, you'll be pleased to hear that "if you purchase Sunless Sea while it is still in Early Access, you’re guaranteed to receive all game expansions and story DLC for FREE".

So glad I didn't hear of this earlier as this looks like quite a bit of fun. And now it's an 'unexpected' release in february. Very Happy

Game has everything I like, but I just can't get past it's combat. I disliked first turn based version, and new arcade combat isn't any better. It isn't easy, but on one hand, it lacks strategy and tactics present in any good rpg, and in the other, it lacks fun and enjoyment of a good arcade game.

oh wow im just fucking LOVING THIS. i love the atmosphere, i love the stories, i love the characters, i love the gameplay, i LOVE the art style and visuals... yes the combat is a bit... ho hum.. if you can get behind a ship, you'll win easily... beasties still kick my ass though, but everything else is great.
