|
 |
My son wants a tablet for his birthday, he already has a Blackberry smartphone so he now wants a Blackberry playbook, but is this the best in this price range? An I pad is out of the question.
So, if not a Playbook, which one?
Regarding price at the most £200.00
I want (if possible) to be able to Jailbreak/crack/compromise (easily) it in some way to enable the use of 'backups'
Any other features you think may be useful?
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks.

You may not be able to afford an iPad2, but an iPad1 should be easily affordable for £200, right? I don't have much experience with any other kinds of tablets though.. sorry.

Thanks, his birthday is this month, so an existing one would be best and definitely not an I pad whatever the price.
Thanks.

If not an iPad, why not try one of those cheap Android tabs? They're "cheap" as in cost, but still seem to pack impressive hardware.

Breezer seems quite happy with that and for €120? Sounds like a score to me. Failing that.. the Nexus 7, as advised, sounds very impressive.

Thanks for the replies, I know next to nothing about tablets, so bear with me please. Are they crackable/hackable at all? I will be buying some games apps for him, but it would be nice to try before I buy.
So really I want one that's mid range and fairly easily hackable ( no soldering etc), robust and user friendly.
Is the Playbook hackable at all?

I wouldn't know about Blackberry hacking, sorry, but yeah.. the iPad requires Jailbreaking before you can run hacked software. The latest IOS is hackable now (5.1.1) but 6.0 will be out soon and then new hacks will have to be found for that one.

Why not look at Nexus 7? It costs 200$, so cheaper than what you wish, and that is the best tablet at that price range.

Doesn't the Playbook offer side-loading for Android apps? I know RIM were talking about removing it earlier in the year, but articles as recent as July 2012 state they even just put an update that IMPROVES the Android support. If that's the case... running hacked apps shouldn't be difficult.

Wait and see if the ipad mini is a real product and if not i recommend the kindle fire I have one and love it. I have put CM9 on it so I pretty much have a true android tablet.

If the ipad mini is real and the right price I am going to get it.

That's dollars mate, it is £199.00 here (about 315 dollars) as usual us in the UK pay more than anyone else for everything.
He has his playbook , but now I am looking into one.
Less than £200.00
Must have a mem card slot

If you want to get it so that he games on it, try the Nexus 7, there is no camera on the back and the display is what you'd expect for those money, but bear in mind the device sports a Tegra 3 chipset paired with a quad core Cortex-A9 and the GeForce ULP, all this with 1GB of RAM. Or the HTC Flyer. It's kind of old by now, but the hardware still holds up pretty well (personal experience, but I wouldn't recommend it for gaming).

Can't you have anyone import it? It is really a shame not to be able to get it for that US price.

Possibly, to be honest I am as confused as feck, my son has his playbook now and I like the idea of having one to mess about with. But there are so many! Its a nightmare deciding which to choose.
1. Got to be fairly cheap ( I am in the UK on UK wages)
2. Must have a mem card slot
3. Decent camera would be nice
4. Hackable/crackable
5. 16 gig min if possible
6. Decent ebook reader (Mobi,Ebub)

Most I have seen do not have a memory card slot. I know the iPad mini will not have one and the one's I have seen with a slot are way over your budget. Why do you need that feature?

Most I have looked at do have it, its a must have feature in my opinion as it allows (I assume) you to basically double the storage space, unless the mem card slot is just for transferring files?

Does the HTC Flyer appeal to you, mate?
