So been pretty happy with the phone, fast enough , runs all software, has all the features i need....
but one thing that has driven me crazy it has only 512mb rom , means with stock acer android i can not install many apps, now it has gotten to the point where i cant even update apps cause of the lack of space.

http://www.modaco.com/topic/352501-rom-performance-rom-43b-play-store-fixed-must-apply-patch-after-setting-up-play/

after some googling i found this, looks like it has updated drivers and other optimizations, allows all apps to be uninstalled or moved to SD card ( most important feature )

but i never in my life installed custom so i wondered if the instructions given are all correct, and if the rom itself looks legit enough to try it out. thanks!

I'd say go for it. Don't know if the rom is legit, but I used custom roms on my xperia arc and couldn't be happier about it. The guide they link to seems accurate.

I couldn't find on that link if this ROM was built for your device or not.

The first and most important rule for ROM flashing: NEVER flash a ROM that wasn't built for your specific device, or at least been tested to work on your device!

This can't be stressed enough. Flashing an incompatible ROM will completely brick your device.

Edit: It looks like the rom is for your device, so you're fine. Still, it's important info for anyone who doesn't know this.

Edit 2: One thing I did not see in the guide is a step for a nandroid backup. Basically what this is an image backup of your current rom. It's literally a safe net in case anything goes wrong with the flashing process. As long as you are using CWM recovery, the process is identical for all devices, so look it up or ask if you're having troubles.

The stock Android on it does not have the option to install anything to the SD card?

I'd say go for it, most Android ROM"s I've seen do not have more than 350 MB's, at the most.

question, been thinking i might as well just root it and remove as many stock apps as possible to relieve the battery usage and free up some much needed ROM space to install apps.

And of course i got no clue where to go for info, any of you experienced at this?

You can go to the modaco forums for modding on this phone.

I put a custom recovery and rooted my sons, then installed custom OC kernel on the standard Gingerbread rom.

I then installed the link2sd app from the market, but didn't set up and extra sd partiton for it's main use, i just use link2sd app to force stuff to sd that won't normally and delete stock apps he wouldn't use.. it's quite a good tool in that way, but you need root.

You can use Titanium app to force other apps to the spare phone rom memory too, to create more space.
