i was hoping they would build their own GPUs from the ground up. i guess at this point it's almost impossible to make a company that could compete with nvidia/amd.
I don't think they ahve that kind of money or engineering. They're just using reference cards. They've always been a cooling solution company..and a mediocre one at that. Not a lot of money comes in from that especially when they've been falling behind in building enthusiast performing cooling for CPU's.

If anyone, it would be one of the mobile ones. Imageon (formerly part of ATI, now Qualcomm, Adreno GPUs) but much more likely Imagination Technologies (PowerVR). Joining the desktop market would be a huge investment. Technically speaking it would be possible though: the PowerVR 6-series does upwards of 200 GFLOPS (the exact number escapes me) on a part that fits into a smartphone.
