|
 |
I remember toying with old hl2 leaked alpha, doom3 leak, hitman2, Painkiller leak etc back in the days. And some others.
I have only managed to find HL2 alpha download..... any clue where I can find Painkiller, unreal, half-life and OTHER famous alphas/betas/e3 ? (That is NOT requesting)
Old alphas are impossible to find anywhere or maybe I am looking wrong
games in development are very interesting and cool to play with. And as much, as I like to play some blood, hexen, shadow warrior and other classics in dosbox, I like to fiddle with those old leaked versions of games. It just bring back memories.
ohh and one more thing. TECH demos - I love stupid tech demos.

He is right though. RE2 used to be a very different game and the beta found its way to the internet (often called RE 1.5).

Stalker had a leaked beta/alpha something. I remember playing it. You could run around that compound where the stalkers get ambushed in the first game by the military guys.

Doom 3 alpha from 2001 is legendary; arguably better than the final result. Look for my L0N3 release *out there*, it has some things fixed, while maintaining the overall feel.
There was Unreal Tournament 2 alpha (what would eventually become Unreal Tournament 2003), but that one was quite broken.

No, they had the same lighting model. They only disabled the models self-shadowing because the models were too low-poly, and were causing artifacts. This is something I did in my custom config for the alpha as well.

The only thing I didn't like in Doom 3 was the lack of pain state for the enemies. (same as in Metro2033)

nahh... You are overreacting. Doom3 isnt all that dark. I love the scifi atmosphere and al the techy stuff. The mars setting really works. And it's not dark. It just uses dynamic lighting.
The world of betas is fantastic tho. I've found so many gems! hardly anything works correctly. Found plenty of patches for hl2 alpha. Will try them.
btw. UE4 is advertised mainy by its new particle system and dynamic lighting.... Nothing of that is new... We have dynamic lighting in doom3 for example and in UE3 as well.

assemblergames.com awesome site and forum about beta/collecting. I used to collect beta/alpha versions . I had many cds/dvds with beta/alpha builds for pc and consoles , but i decided to stop because it's so addictive especially when you play game which hasnt been released to public
stop pressing F5 get a Life !

Well the idea behind it isn't new, but the way it's handled most probably is, and i guess that's where the innovation is. Then again, i might have no idea what i'm talking about having not seen anything more detailed than a couple of vids so far about UE 4.
