PostPosted: Mon, 7th May 2012 15:25    Post subject: Got engaged yesterday
Me and my girlfriend are together for nearly 7 years now. Yesterday I asked her if she wanted to marry me, and she said yes Very Happy

It's not like I expected her to say no, but it was still special for us. We talked about getting married a lot recently, and I was sure I wouldn't want to live with anybody else anyway. So I decided to go for it.

Now all those people asking us when we are gonna get married ("already 7 years, you should marry!!!") have to shut the fuck up Very Happy

No date yet for the wedding, we don't even know yet if we want a large party or just something small, maybe even just us both during a fancy beach vacation Very Happy

congrats mate, what made you guys decide that now was the time after 7 years? Did she give you some hints in the past or are you just now in a state of wanting to take your relationship to the next and final step?

I dunno. It felt somehow felt right. I mean, we really talked ALOT about getting married recently, as some of our best friends are gonna marry soon. She was kind of nagging about it, but I don't blame her or anything.

What I really didn't like was people asking why we didn't marry already, seing as we are together so long. I don't think getting married has something to do with duration of the relationship. It just has to be right.

About the Bachelor party: My best friend does some work for the "Pascha" here. So I'm sure the party is gonna be fantastic Very Happy

Congratulations mate.

I got married in Cuba, not on the beach but on a gazebo over the sea. Best thing we ever did.

Nah it was a bit different. I (or we both) don't believe in this "magical fairy tale" kind of thing, where you dress up and go to a fancy restaurant and pop the ring in champagne or so. Although it is an important moment, I think it is much more about making just a nice moment, then trying to make an epic impression.

I surprised her over breakfast. Usually she gets up way earlier than me. But this Sunday, I woke up before her. I couldn't set an alarm clock obviously, because it would have woken her up. But (probably because I was a bit excited) I woke up at just the right time. I snuck into the kitchen and prepared a nice breakfast, then carried it to our bed. I woke her up gently with a light kiss and she was really surprised to see that I made breakfast, because as I said usually she wakes up before me. She slowly started getting awake, and we started eating.
I had the ring hidden underneath my pillow, and just when I was about to take it out, she took the pillow because she wanted it to sit better. I had no other chance than to go ahead, and took the ring box and held it out to her. I think she realized what was happening, but couldn't really believe it. I asked her if she wanted to marry me, and of course she said yes Smile
We tried eating breakfast after that, but couldn't really get anything down because we were both quite excited.

As I said, just a nice moment, nothing epic or anything. But it was just the right thing Smile

Congratz!

I am pretty far away from getting engaged allthough I am with my gf for 10 years now.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
