Resident Evil creator reveals new survival horror game
Quote:
Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami has revealed his new game with Tango Gameworks. The latest issue of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu (translated by Andriasang) has the scoop on the studio's new game, a survival horror title in development under the working title "Zwei."
A first peek into the world of Zwei.
A first peek into the world of Zwei.
Mikami will serve as the game's executive director and is said to be "fully involved" in the project's development. As for why Mikami chose survival horror as a genre, he said he wanted to build a game that is in line with player expectations. Given his history working on the Resident Evil franchise, the survival horror genre was the best fit.
Mikami said initial development on Zwei began at the end of 2010, with the game's "basic settings" presently about halfway finished. The developer did not share which platforms the game will ship for, but noted they would "probably" be high-definition systems.
As for its name, Zwei is the German word for "two," but Mikami said in an update to the developer's website that this name is not intended to reveal specifics about the game. Additionally, the first images of Zwei (above right) are not necessarily representative of the final product. According to the developer, the shots represent the "feel and tone" of the project.
No release date has been announced for Zwei, but last month it was reported that the project would not be released in 2012. Beyond Capcom's Resident Evil franchise, Mikami has held creative-lead roles on Platinum Games' Vanquish and Grasshopper Manufacture's Shadows of the Damned.
IGN will have exclusive first impressions of The Evil Within on Monday, April 22nd at 7:00 a.m. Pacific, so be sure to check back then for our thoughts on an early demo along with a behind-the-scenes look at Tango Gameworks.
Looks damn good. I hope the x360/PS3 versions aren't too crippled by the next gen sticker. Presumably this was made on current gen first with the idea of a next gen port after.
If I'd have a fuck for every time I gave one regarding some PC elitist's opinion, I'd still have a total sum of 0 fucks. That includes a somewhat recent "conversation" in the next gen thread with a certain high tier derp.
“Obviously I like horror,” he muses. “But survival horror has been drifting away from what makes it survival horror. And so I want to bring it back. Bring back survival horror to where it was.”
So they make a Resident Evil game with a different name, troll everyone with characters entering a big mansion like in RE1 and everyone agrees it's a new game. Ok.
Oh and that sure ain't Pyramid Head from SH on the top screenshot above
Today I didn't even need to use my AK. I gotta say it was a good day. (c) - Ice Cube
Looking great! sure going to play this, one thing i don't like is the game isn't 16:9 and will have black bars the fuck with that? also The Order: 1886 for PS4 will not be 16:9 i had enough crap with Dragon's Dogma
Yeup, it's just more artistic vision masturbation. "What? The consumers don't like black borders and uncommon aspect ratios? Pffft, who cares what those peons want? I'm an ARTIST! They will learn to appreciate my magnificence"
Looks quite good, albeit clearly not very original. Since I'm not a big fan of the "evolution" most devs have been proposing for the genre, though, I actually think I may like this one.
Also, a 2014 game without 16:9 support... eh... how many "black bars" jokes can we take before it's not even funny anymore
Il be back when this game comes out and is avging atleast a 9.0 to tell all the haters I told you so! Mark my words, finally a real resident evil game !
