The "problem" is that you don't log in to gmail but to your google account. And if you happen to use gmail it will show you your emails and if you visit youtube it will show you your channel and so on...

I also use another browser for my Google account. If you are logged in, Google will tie every search and everything you do to your G-Account. I don't want them to get that kind of data about me, so I only use the google search when I am not logged in and with cookies disabled.

lol yes. like that would actually work
your mother knows you look at porn. you father. you grandmother and grandfather both knew you were a dirty little boy. What's wrong with letting google know where i guess 99% of its employees also look at porn? And also pirate? And download mp3s. What's so wrong about that? Unless you have something to hide. They you should worry.

It's not about porn. It's obvious everyone looks at porn. But it's more about personal things. What if I don't want them to know that I have a bad illness, or something similar. I don't share that kind of stuff with Facebook, and I also don't want Google to know about it.

Sorry waldo but that is simply ignorant. I wouldn't want information about anything of me (my health, illnesses, sexual details whatever) to be known by simply anybody. Just like I don't want anybody touching my anus when I just want to take a flight somewhere.
"Oh you don't want my finger up your anus? WHAT ARE YOU HIDING FROM US?!"
Well maybe your dirty finger shouldn't be there in the first place.

it really shouldn't matter. everyone out there whose business is to know what you, in particular, search for already know. \o/ I'm cool with that. It's not gonna change and I'd be happy if many major sites had just one login. Amazon and google are working hand in hand since my CC details are shared. \o/ Update my amazon credentials, my google wallet gets updated. It's nice. It's friendly. Why all the UGH THEY SPY ON ME, MY LIFE IS SUPER DUPER PRIVATE!!! GO AWAY EVIL CORPORATIONS. Like they gonna gossip about you. Like they gonna laugh at you. Lol. yes, they'll share your info, make it known that a user pumpaction is searching for anal lubricant and since he's allergic to latex they will also inform you of a condom your anus would be perfectly suited for. Is that really such a bad thing? It's a good thing \o/ If you're on the web, on any social site, or have an account anywhere that has your real first name / last name then your life is catalogued.
besides, half the time the people who know your dirty secrets live thousands of miles away.

whiners. You really think they will keep offering services for free? A bit naive, isn't it?
You can use search, earth, maps, gmail, youtube etc for free. The price you pay? Your data gets collected for the advertisers.
Don't like? Go have fun on crap such as yahoo search, hotmail or vimeo video...
I have everything open. I even use google search when i am logged in into my google account. Handy, he remembers what i clicked, so my search results are more optimized. Yeah and the porn, well who gives a fuck. Everybody watches porn, it's not like i will ever be fired if my employers gets into my browsing history and sees i visit porn sites. Everybody watches porn, everbody downloads music, everybody has drunk pictures online somewhere, everybody did crappy stuff when he/she was 16. Who cares? It's a competitive world, deliver results and nobody gives a fuck about your special behaviour. Heck, i know a senior finance/tax consultant at Ernst & Young who is as gay as you can imagine. Pink feathers and stuff all the time. Pictures every weekend on facebook, tagged. Who cares, he delivers kickass results, so nobody gives a fuck about it. If the money consultants get away with it, everybody gets away with it.
And about the illnesses. You can't stop the evolution of the data. Pharmaceutical trials are being rethinked nowadays. You will have to supply genetic profiles before you will be able to take pills. 50% of the new drugs in development are being developed together with a personal genome profiling to determine which genetic profiles work best with which drugs. You will have to provide your profile to get a working drug. Eventually all your diseases will pop out. Don't like it? Go live in a forest and don't enjoy evolution.
The data gathering is not the problem, you cannot stop that. Belief me. Your data is already being collected, sliced and diced and sold. Your purchasing profile is known, your facebook data is known, your internet profile is known, your job data is know. Social security data is linked with tax details and with phone records. Everything is out there. Just stop trying to fight it and stop trying to stay under the radar. It makes no sense.
Just hope that data access is regulated by the government. Vote for the correct politicians. Yes, pharma companies have your genetic profile. Should they sell that to insurance companies? Probably not. Will they do it if they get good money? Probably. Well just regulate it. In the USA, insurance companies cannot use priors anymore to kick you out. But 60% of the people are against obama care, so in the future insurance companies will probably be allowed to use genetic data to kick you out.

Nobody is putting a finger up your anus to annoy you. There is not a single company that can afford to continuously annoy its clients just to annoy them, they'd have no clients. I don't understand that people always think that companies are continuously trying to screw people over.
Why is Google logging your data? To optimize search results, to know which typos people make etc. That's what they say. nr2, to personalize search results, I can live with that, I even like it. nr3, to personalize advertising. Well, today i have been searching for car rental companies to rent a car in the USA and locations in the usa to plan a trip. All of a sudden all the advertising is about car rental and tourist locations. Well, if Google is going to put advertising on websites, at least make it relevant for me. I'd rather have something relevant in the banners than advertising for children toys or manicures just to say some random things.
Why is Amazon logging my data? I buy 10 books on finance, next time i login, i don't have to look for other interesting books. Amazon made a selection for me! Super handy. Instead of looking for hot chicks in the club, Amazon got rid of the ugly chicks. I can choose the super hot chicks from a bunch of hot chicks with the same effort. Am I willing to pay for that? Yes. Is it free? yes (amazon books are >50% cheaper than books shops in the city here). So they are probably passing around the data. That's the way it goes...

If you examine LiveHttpHeaders log while logging into your gmail, you will see that it logs you into Youtube no matter what. There's nothing you can do about it. They turned it off 2 weeks ago, now it's back on.

just wait till you become a politician or a CEO and arent a 100% USA puppet, they will have 20 years of browser history, search history, personal messages and picture on FB , all your SMS and emails to go through to smear you.

Oh boy oh boy, here we go again. Don't stick to old paradigms!
I have seen multiple pictures of a drunk Zuckerberg. Does he give a shit? No. Do i give a shit? no
I have seen multiple pictures of a drunk Belgian prime minister/other ministers in their student times. Does anybody give a shit? No They do pop up now and then when the elections are nearing. If you are a fossile dinosaur, you give a shit, but 95% of the people don't give a shit. Everybody has pictures like that.
Imagine i become president or CEO one day, purely hypothetical. What will they have to smear? I sent horny SMS messages to my girlfriend. Booohoo, interesting. I downloaded illegal MP3s in 2010. I surfed to porn websites and looked for 'big tit girls', 'asian'. There will be pictures of me with a bottle of beer on a party, there will be pictures of me hanging from a rock at 4000m (13000ft) with one hand and no rope. I really really really doubt that will have any influence on the population. And I will be able to say "Well folks, i enjoyed life and yet i still managed to make it as a president". All the people will love me because i am a human being as well.
And you really belief that you are that interesting that they will store all your data, personal, for 20 years? I am pretty sure that no advertisers is interested in your puberal surfing behaviour when you were 16 at the age of 40...
Paranoic people. What are you afraid of? My dad knows i am watching porn, my boss knows i am watching porn, my friends their girlfriends know which porn i am watching ("yeah, that website sucks [sic], try that one for tittie porn"). I mean, I know plenty people in the police that are downloading mp3s, playing illicit poker games (5euro buyins). You all think you are some bunch of badasses that have to hide a lot. But nobody gives a fuck about your past, nobody will smear, nobody will abuse your history.
Even Obama probably fucked his girl in public somewhere sometime. Even Obama gets drunk. Even Obama enjoyed some pot when he was younger. I mean, Bush sniffed his nose away and drank himself into a bunch of drunk shit and he still got elected.
I am assuming you guys are not pushing around 20billions in illicit coke dollars. If that;s the case, I can understand you are afraid of your browsing history getting out or pictures floating around. But if that's the case, i am quite sure you will get busted sooner or later anywayz...

Ah well, nothing can beat the slim design that was implemented by Chrome. I never understood why IE invented the zillion additional bars to start with. Dunno how it is now, but i hated it years ago when IE was the only option.
I am using Rockmelt atm, nothing beats that. The slimness designed by chrome and additional handy features such as instant sharing of pages on twitter/facebook, flagging as 'read later', integrated RSS feeds reader in a 1 cm sidebar, and integrated search features in the address bar! I just type "imdb Project X" for example, and my search query goes directly in the IMDB search box. It all detects it automatically, so handy. And it automatically stores my browser history and my favorite pages in the cloud (oops there goes the privacy). I can login on my other laptop or on my mobile device and i can continue surfing. It is an awesome experience.

EDIT: Ah, it seems to be more social (implemented facebook notifications). |
Well yeah, i don't know which features are chrome itself and which are specific Rockmelt features. Been using it almost 2 years already and i see updates now and then so i am not really sure who is doing the upgrades.
All i know is, I login with my facebook account into my browser, and I get the whole shebang. Really handy as a lot of people on the workfloor (read: the offices) use it as well, so instead of emailing or phoning, I use facebook chat, which is actually pulled out of facebook, to discuss things 'Hey, you got a dataset on xxx', 'Meeting @2 o clock?', etc. And if I want to be left alone, there is a button to turn all the social interaction off in 1 click.
I find it really handy. I have my browser open all day long, I see twitter messages (i am subscribed to a lot of newspapers, datafeeds, scientific magazines), i see RSS feed messages popping up. I come home @8 o clock in the evening and I don't have to watch the news on tele anymore. I am as up to date as i can be. All i do is 30min of article reading (articles i flagged during the day as 'read later'), posting some on the twitter feed for my students and that's it. It enables me to process and share an enormous stream of data/news during the day, real time and incredibly fast.
