I am building a new PC at the moment. I know I asked around here some months ago, but I was away for a few months so that had to be put on hold.
PC is mainly going to be used for gaming, but I am not looking for a high-end system, rather something that gives me good value for my money (if that is even possible with PC's ) I am not going to overclock my system, and I really don't need max. settings in my games, just want them to run properly.

I decided on most of the parts, but I am unsure about the most important parts, CPU/MoBo and GPU.

CPU:
I know that the i5 2500k is currently probably the best thing to go for, but that would cost at least around 270€ (180€ for the CPU, around 90€ for the GA-Z68AP-D3).
I thought of going AMD, the Phenom II X4 965 and an ASRock MoBo would come to around 170€. (At least I figured that this is quite an alright AMD CPU).

So the question is if that 100€ make a HUGE difference in everyday use and gaming, or only if you max out your settings (which I won't do).

GPU:
I thought about a NVIDIA card, because in the past I always had bad experiences with ATI's drivers... But my current ATI card is really old, so maybe ATI has improved?!

The 1024MB Asus GeForce GTX 560 DirectCU II is around 160€, but I read in another thread here that the 1024MB Asus GeForce GTX 560 Ti DirectCU II (200€) would be way faster, so worth the 40€ more?
Or what ATI card could you guys recommend? Price range is not fixed, but I thought that these cards would suit the CPUs...

Just FYI the other parts I thought of getting:
Crucial M4 64GB SSD (yes, there will be another HDD with that, but I am waiting for the insance prices to drop and use my old one until then)
Corsair XMS3 DDR3-1333 DIMM CL9 8GB (2x4GB)
BeQuiet 550W BQTS6

Thanks for your input! Smile

Yes the i5 is worth the extra cash. and puts you on a better platform all round.
You will see gains in all cpu heavy tasks including games.

The thing with the Asus cards is the cooler is triple slot. You might want to get a duel slot card.
The 560Ti is indeed the faster card and worth the extra if you can afford it.

The prices on these GPU's should fall a good deal over the coming months though with the introduction of new cards.

Also Ivy Bridge cpu's are soon to be released and may be worth waiting for.
It's entirely up to you Smile

i can't say i have firsthand experience with it, but from what i understand yes, the TI is worlds of difference from the GTX and 40 euros(?) more isn't that much more.

The TI indeed seems to be the better option. But maybe there are some cheaper, slower cards that would still be alright?

From what Wereld said in another thread, Ivy apparently isn't worth waiting for as it only reduces power consumtion, but doesn't really increase performance...

It does increase performance, but it's still several months away and not worth waiting for - for performance. They may lower the Sandy Bridges in price (although I have a feeling they won't) once Ivy comes, that would be the reason to wait.

As far as 560 non-Ti versus Ti goes: fuck the non-Ti. 40 EUR is definitely worth it. The non-Ti is just not a good card compared to everything around it.

As for alternatives: 6870. Even cheaper than 560 non-Ti, performs better than that and in shader-heavy games it even surpasses the 560 Ti. When tessellation comes into play the 560 Ti will still beat it. It's a good card, it's just very easy to fuck up its performance entirely (by enabling tessellation). Whether you can live with that is up to you of course, you can always force tessellation off through CCC Smile

Ok, so I am just about to order, took me some time to get the money together.

This would be the loadout I am about to buy:

(Just ignore that "Service level gold" stuff, they always add it again, not gonna use that Wink)

Is there anything you think I should change or could improve, without it getting alot more expensive? I know I need another HDD for storage, but as I said I will use my old one until prices drop.

You can get a 6950 (1gb) for ~210€ which is faster than the 560ti if you want to go ATI.

7850 is €229, use less power, matches 560ti.

But I'd go 560Ti anyway since it's even cheaper.

I thought going for the ATI 6870 as Wereld said, because apparently it is as fast as a 560TI, and I don't really care about Tesselation. And it is way cheaper, only 144€.

I tried looking on that site for you.. and you're right about that, the 6870 is the cheapest by far. Cheapest 560ti I could find was €174 and then it just goes up from there. Ideally it would be best to stretch a little bit more, get a 7xxx ATi or 5xx nV, but if you're on a budget then I don't see the 6870 being too bad at all. Ok thanks! Yeah, I am on a budget, wanted to go up as high as 600€, hit that spot pretty good, although a usual HDD is still missing from that, and CPU cooler is only the boxed version for now... But I don't need that right now, I can wait a few months for that. I'll go for that system then Smile
