Been years since I've played it so I can't remember all the little details. I got it on gog.com with that DnD sale they had.

Question 1: The scripts, I remembered I used to have these set up when I was little and it worked great, however now I can't for the life of me figure out how to get them to work. I have my spell casters scripts set to cast defensive spells then start casting offensive, however, during combat they just either stand there being retarded or they go up and start poking them with daggers.

I've tried having them unselected figuring the game would see I'm not controling them now and let the AI take over, that didn't work. I tried hitting "A" on and off to see if that changed anything and all that did was let them attack with melee or not. The spells are memorized and ready to be cast but they simply won't do it. I'm ok with mico managing when I need to but for simple fights I'd rather the AI just get it done and over with.

Question 2: I run dual monitors on my system and I can't edge scroll the game since the cursor goes to the other monitor. I googled and people were talking about how this "cursor lock" program is what they used but I can't get it to work. When setting it to the only .exe to run the game it won't lock even after I hit the hot keys I set. I assume the program see's the .exe and when you launche baldur's gate II.exe, it brings up the splash launcher so maybe it's thinking that's the game? I'm having to use my laptop atm but I'd rather use my main system.

I don't ever use mods. I like vanilla the most, I installed one mod where it puts back the stuff that was cut out for release. GOG fixed most of the rest of the issues so I'm doin good, just can't figure out this script stuff.

Try soloing a sorcerer and removing the level cap. I had a blast with him and breezed through the game. I took Sarevok and dualled him to a mage when I came into ToB. We pwned everything together. Sarevok was a powerhouse with his massive HP and high intelligence. Ahh, good times.

I do hope you use community patches and the high resolution fix. Good stuff.

When I've played last year, I too installed a few scripts.
But just like you, didn't found them to be very efficient, to be honest.

Well I don't generally need them to be entirely too efficient, but the script says the mage is going to cast spells yet he/she doesn't. Just stands there looking stupid. The only ones that work are melee/ranged/theif scripts, anything to do with casting spells seems to be broken

That's what I'm telling you. I've selected them, but didn't see any difference; I'd have still to control them if I want the things done. I've read later, in a forum, that they weren't much efficient. Maybe the word should be broken, then. Wink

Does the mage have the correct spells MEMORIZED? And is he/she rested so the spells are available to cast?

maybe this will help?

Additional Script Fixes
There are several additional scripting errors which can not be fixed by the core fixes. While clearly bugs, what was intended by the developers is more towards speculation and, as such, these fixes have been moved into their own component. Most of the bugs are missing checks in spellcaster scripts for memorized spells (or casting spells). A more detailed account of the changes can be found in the full

You guys are doing it backwards. What you're meant to do is leave the stupid meatshields to their own devices, and focus your control on the awesome casters. Casters are cool, melee are stupid.

This. Also, for the easy fights (groups of goblins, some bandits etc.) you don't need spells at all. Just give your mages a sling and point the way Very Happy (or throw one fireball, that also works).

Fixed.

That's how you play BG2, the best RPG ever imo.

The best way to know if your script is working or not, is to turn on the AI, by pressing A I believe. Then if your character just goes Minsk, then your script is not set up right, you have to make sure that you have all the spells memorized and also the items you wish to use.

If your character has run out of spells, he will either do as the script melee says or sling as in range, and try to use his best ranged weapon. The best way to do it is to set your melee to aggro and tank and manually use your casters.

Pause every .5sec and laugh as you cast Time stop, and then improved alacrity and then Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting,Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting,Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting,Meteor.....

Mods seem to be working fine with the retail version, here. Even the mods that modify the .exe. Thumbs up on this anthology.

heh. the spell i'd end up using with mages 99% of the time would be magic missile. Or a nice fireball before my fighters cut everything to ribbons.
