The last two years haven't been very good for horror movies, but I liked The Thing prequel, Stake Land and obviously I Saw the Devil (more thriller than horror, but definitely brilliant).

well the problem is that major filmmakers dont DO horror anymore because its a harder sell (i mean they canned del toros mountains of madness, dammit ), or if they do, they dont do it very well. its either shitty slasher films or comedy horror.
best bet is indies, stv or foreign.
maybe apollo 18? its not really horror and its quite slowly placed.. its more of a thriller but you probably wont like it (i think im the only one who even half-way did)... or maybe dont be afraid of the dark? i havent seen it yet, but i keep meaning to.

It wasn't scary, but i guess it was gruesome.
Real "Horror" movies are mostly stuffed with cliches and jump scares. |

The Road is about the only good movie I can think of recently that was actually a really good film while also being decently scary.

all of the scream movies are good and worth watching!
scream 4 is a brilliant slasher. loved how it says fuck remakes! and the opening intro is excellent
