steampunk dungeon crawler!

Oh.. missed this:
We want your help to choose the theme and the genre. The highest and lowest voted from each category will be combined for the game. Of course, you’ve always wanted to play a Shoot Em’Up Dating Simulator with a Candy Land World War II theme. Choose wisely!

Poll is open! I'm definitely not keen on the bullshit "we'll take highest and lowest and mix together" -- the hell? So it's going to be an RTS with beat'em'up aspects, based around a steampunk ancient Egypt setting? Yeah.. no thanks.

Everyone needs to start voting for Ancient Egypt, pushing that off the bottom of the boards, because damn. Who the hell wants to play an RTS/Shoot'em'Up set in Post Apocalyptic Ancient Egypt? Vomit

Even worse, the polls closed with RTS/Shoot em up set in Steampunk Ancient Egypt. I'll be passing on this for sure.

Well, if they want us to pick games from different themes in the next bundle, then that means they have a lot to offer in the upcoming bundles. So, it's just a matter of time till bundle offers some good games.

What they're doing mate is making ONE game, with an RTS and shoot'em'up genre set in a post apocalyptic Ancient Egypt setting. That's what the poll was about; taking the most/least popular genres and mixing them with the most/least popular settings... then making a game about it in 60 hours.

it looks like now they are working on multiple games in the span of the weekend instead of just one like I thought. I watched the video for a bit and one looks like some sort of cheesy robotron type clone. but I've seen artwork, animations, and level editing for something completely different as well. And the blurb at the top of the screen says (not sure if that's what it said before)

Quote:
Watch live, as Mojang and friends create games from scratch in the span of a weekend! Pay what you want to get the games, and all proceeds go to your choice of four excellent charities!

You know, I'd give anything for another UnEpic-type game ... or even a post-apocalyptic RPG with the same style as UnEpic or Terraria, just without the "world building" stuff.

Or in style of Zelda: A Link to the Past, with 2D sprites but with modern bells and whistles. Was playing Jamestown the other day and I got a semi just from the artwork alone.

I always stop myself from buying Jamestown Sad The artwork is fantastic and every time I look at it the game just screams "Look at me! I'm an indievania title!" -- then I look closer and it actually turns out to be a sodding bullet hell game Mad

Yeah Jamestown has a phantastic artwork and the soundtrack is outstanding. But I just don't like those shmup's (shoot em ups) or what they are called...

About the Mojam Bundle: I don't really get everybodys excitement. Ok, surely at first the idea sounds great. But the combination that comes out in the end might not work at all. There are reasons why certain types of games haven't been made until now, and that is because they just don't work.
Having Mojang as the developer doesn't help either. They had one good game, and that's it. I am not saying they suck at programming or anything, and they certainly have a feel for what people like. But they don't have a history of creating games to prove they can keep quality games coming. I don't mean to say that the final game is gonna be bad because of this, but having a developer with experience on more than one major game might help. They might have many years of experience in developing their game, but in the end nobody knows if they actually can make something else that is worthwhile.

(/me gets ready for the shitstorm... Wink)

I think this is more about a streaming the event than the actual games. I mean do you think they are able to develop a game that will entertain you for more than just a few minutes in just 60 hours?

one of my favorite games last year (unepic).

as for this rts/shmup in steampunk ancient egypt, i cant wait to see it at least. not sure how much i want to play it but i really want to see it. when i read the poll results my mind said 'howthehell whatthefuck?'. if they can implement all those things together with any coherency or direction i will be impressed. i kinda love absurd things like that so part of me wants this to work out Razz

i also hope they raise a million so that guy can try to shave notch with his fists...i hope that part wasnt a joke Twisted Evil
