|

Wife asked for divorce.that bitch! Anyways, we have kids so that makes it tough to leave the states without them as bitch will most likely get to keep them as fathers rarely get custody.
So, I can stay and live in the states..or maybe..have my mid life crises a bit earlier and move to Europe which Ive never been except when I used to live in Italy as baby.
My choices: Holland, Netherlands, Amsterdam, ROmania, Belgium, Germany
I can keep my current job as I work from home as long as I have internet.
Any suggestions? Say fuck my family in states and maybe move for atleast a year (rent apartment). Mind you I know nobody and only speak English.

Well, my life has been turned upside down and I was devastated. I dont believe in Divorce unless there is physical abuse or drugs, cheating, or something major. Her reasons - I hate trance/techno. You play video games, grow up! We dont have alot in common. Really? Really? For music cuze I hate country. Alot of other communication issues but nothing warranting a divorce. Anyway, maybe I am crazy and maybe Ill miss my twin girls who are 4 too much.
What cheaper countries you recommend? I make about 60K a year (US dollars)

Greece. That sounds nice too! I thought Greece is expensive...Hmm Ill add that to my list. Spain - Maybe. So many choices..So basically I need to narrow to mostly English speaking and best bang for my buck. Also, keep in mind im going in alone. But whatever Im a grown man and expect to make local friends at the bars. I think..

I'm sure the kids will enjoy spending vacations in EU with dad when they get a little older, and hopefully he'll cross the pond every now and then too. Going for a new life after a divorce sounds like a great plan.
I'd vote for eastern europe too.

I know, I know. Not just the US though, half the world is dumb enough to call it Holland and I sure as hell will never say I'm from neither North nor South Holland
(The difference is as big as between east/west or north/south in the US, entirely different people down here )

I have no advice on where to move, but I'll say this at least; my condolences on the breakup.

My 2 cents (and of course, this is us not knowing ANYTHING about your situation) would be to not leave the city, let alone the country where you live now. You have two children. Be a part of their lives. I would say you would be making a VERY selfish decision in leaving your kids. You say you don't believe in divorce, etc but yet you'll give up your kids to go live in europe? You also sit there and say "I might miss my twin 4 year old girls". MIGHT? What kind of father are you? Also, have you tried marriage counseling? See if your wife would be up for that before making the divorce final. Plead with her to at least try it for the children.

NL at least the legal bud there will help you through your tough times. You might even like it and meet a new broad that'll make you happy and refreshed. Nobody will take away your kids as long as you don't give up on them.

Probably due to translations. Netherlands in Poland is "Holandia". |
Same here. |
And whats Holland in polish then?
Empty again

After seeing my twins tonight for the entire 3 hours allotted since last week, I dont think I can leave them at all. I am now considering a long vacation..From the responses, NL seems to be top bill. We already did marriage counseling before she filed and counselor said she is making a mistake for giving up like this. So, I have to move on. Worst time in my life. Thanks to all for the condolences as I dont wish my pain I am in to my worst enemy. My daughters are my life and I plan to be close to them as long as I live. Maybe when they are adults I should plan something like this. But, a vacation to Europe seems to be best alternative.

Sounds like a plan mate
Every foreigner seems to like NL, so you can't go wrong there I think. I do urge you to check out other parts of the country as well though, not just Holland
Like I said, the southern half has different people. Also the non-flat part of the country

Dude, with that amount of money, you will be king anywhere in Europe. I am highly educated, and I earn more than average although I am still fairly young. I earn 40k before taxes, which is 24k after taxes. So with 60k, I am quite sure you will survive...
You probably will have to pay the same taxes, but you don't have to pay for health insurance, public transport is almost free, etc etc.
Come to belgium or holland. Everybody speaks english. France and germany are the same social-wise, but those people tend to be a bit more non-english. Other viable options might include spanish or italian coast cities, which are shit cheap. You might get away with spending only like 500 for a real nice house/apartment in some nice, non-touristic, scenic coastal city.
I wouldn't go to eastern europe at the moment. People are riotting, governments are restructuring debt, axing government jobs. It is just a shit hole. The same goes for greece.
If i were you, i'd go for some idylic holland place near some of the lakes (ask the .nl people more info). You can relax there, get your head empty, fix your new game plan. And if you want to get out to some party place or whatever, just take your car. You are from USA, you are used to long drives. There is no place in europe where you can drive 2h without being near a big city.
If i had the money, i'd go to some french, austrian or swiss mountain village in the alps. There's plenty of nice places that are 1h drives from big cities where you can really be on your own, but that have all necessary goods such as internet, shops, social life etc but are relatively small but very scenic.

I won't pretend to know about your situation but just like Yondaime said, I have a friend who feels exactly the same way about his father who left him when he was very young. His dad entered into the picture 2 years ago and I was unfortunately there to witness the shitstorm. My friend was extremely bitter and said some horrific things to his father even though his dad was extremely apologetic. Both of them were in tears by the end of it and those two haven't talked to each other ever since.
Seriously, you said it yourself. You couldn't leave them then DON'T. Everyone needs a father and your girls need you now more than ever.
Good luck and I hope you pass through this and come out stronger.
1 and 2 are still amazing.

With this kind of money you'll live really, really well in Romania. Well, at least after you get used with all the quirks of my country. The country is beautiful, the cities are generally butt-ugly, with about 4 exceptions. The language is hard to learn, but most of the people know English, at least at basic level.
I really don't understand why most romanians on this forum are so goddamn bitter about their country. I had my fair share of communism, and all the shit that was after, i had ups and downs, but still consider Romania a decent country. It's not Somalia, Afghanistan, or other such war-torn, hopeless countries. We don't have wars, tornados, hurricanes, car bombs, assassinates, terrorism, serial killers, tsunamis, huge earthquakes, firearms, civil wars, etc. We have corrupt politicians, a broken healthcare system, stupid laws and biased, unfair judges, quite a lot of gipsies, bad roads - but you'll manage well, with that kind of money.
