I couldn't find any other thread about this (broken search Wink), but Dropbox is beta testing a new feature and giving away 5GB storage that will stay even after beta testing is over.
The new feature is importing photos directly from cameras and USB sticks. Usually you would have to upload 5GB of photos to get the additional space, at 500MB intervals. Now this would probably take up ALOT of time for most people, but luckily there is an easier way!

1. Get the newest version of Dropbox: http://forums.dropbox.com/topic.php?id=53104

2. Download this file: http://www.schnaeppchenfuchs.com/blog/goto/Dummy_Datei_21_KB_runterladen/48961/2

3. Extract it to a USB-Stick/Memory stick whatever into a folder called "DCIM". The file will grow up to 4,5GB!

4. Start autoplay on that device, either by removing it from the PC and reinserting or over explorer. There should be a new option "import with Dropbox" or something similar. If you don't want to upload private photos, make sure the file above is the only one in that folder.

5. It is VERY important you use that "import" function. Otherwhise it will not give you additional space!

6. Now uploading 4,5GB might take a long time. But luckily the file won't be uploaded! Dropbox will just scan the file, and then notice that it already has a copy on their servers. It will then be added to your library immediately.

7. If the additional space is not there yet, restart Dropbox on your PC or reboot.

8. Enjoy! Smile

Btw: If anybody wants to sign up to Dropbox feel free to use this link Wink

They are not beta testing shit. They are fighting off Google because they are planning on releasing a cloud service similar to iCloud, but 'open'. With a free google account you could be using the space on your desktop, android tablets and android mobile devices.

http://www.mobilemag.com/2012/02/10/google-drive-to-challenge-dropbox-for-cloud-storage-supremacy/

Goldman Sachs put 250mil into it in october in a series B funding. I am quite sure they are sweating a little bit now. If Google steps up to it, Dropbox could be a goner. (https://www.secondmarket.com/company/dropbox)

Anywayz, Dropbox has advantages over (paying) services like a potential Google drive, but unfortunately it earns them no money, so they could still be a goner.
3 things i like the most.
1) It is completely free
2) It is completely anonymous, so no specific dropbox login/account or visa registration or whatever
3) It syncs automatically on other devices.

These 3 combined are so powerful. You need to fix some code or get a document. You just install it on your friends computer, use your random hotmail email to login and 1 minute later you have everything synced.

I use it to 'backup'/sync my important documents/files. But I use it specifically to plan mountaineering trips with friends of mine. Just throw images in the directory or routes and it auto syncs. Or whenever I find some interesting picture online, i copy it to share it with them.
