Quote: | At this rate, everybody will soon see their favourite developer starting some kicks or kicking some starters. Brian Fargo, creator of Wasteland, the game that launched a thousand Fallouts, has espied the queue of well-regarded figures approaching their adoring audience cap in hand and is now seeking a cap of his own. It’ll be a comically large bit of headwear as he wants to cram at least a million dollars into it, which is the estimated cost of funding a Wasteland sequel. The game would be a PC release, with, according to the man’s own Twittertalk, a “complete old school vibe and made with input from gamers. Made the gamers way.” |
True Fallout fans, time to put your money where your mouth is.

I thought development had already started awhile back. A couple years ago some post-apocalyptic-looking concept art was uploaded to their site.

The devs (whoever they may be) will need a clear, detailed outline before I pitch in to any kickstarter project. DF for example didn't get my money because they were so vague about what they're going to do.

I'm definitely behind this all the way, but I'm also like inz; I'm going to wait for detailed info before vouching any money.

Yeah.. gonna need a little more than "LULZ WE GONE MAEK OLDSCHOOL GAEM" before I throw my money at them. Especially when you look at inXile's games..
I doubt it would ever get to one million dorrah anyway.

Yeah, uhhh, that's far from even being close to what he's said. This isn't some high school kid playing off his dad's nostalgia here. This is a guy that made a lot of the games I grew up on. They're not just diving into it blindly. They're "...working on a production schedule to see if it's feasible." And when he says things like
Quote: |
Wasteland, whatever its called, will be "100% faithful to its roots." This means a Wasteland game that "would be focusing on top-down, probably isometric, party based, skill based -- where if you'd just finished playing Wasteland and moved onto this you'd feel comfortable." |
it's worth the risk *to me*. Might not be for you but totally worth it for me.
Quote: | The big thing Fargo emphasizes, that the fans are often missing, is that "this process means we don't have to do it like the publisher wants." Fans on the boards are worried that the project will start out looking like a hardcore, old-school Wasteland title, but eventually turn into something more "mainstream." Fargo says that they don't have to worry about "will [the audience] get this or get that," they can just be "more like the old days...totally creative." |
