Publisher: Capcom
Director: Hideaki Itsuno
Producer: Hiroyuki Kobayashi
Engine: MT Framework
Platform: PlayStation 3 , Xbox 360
Release date:

JP Early 2012
NA March 27, 2012
EU May 1, 2012

Genre: Action-adventure game
Mode: Single-player

Quote:
Dragon's Dogma is an upcoming action-adventure game that is being developed by Capcom for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game has an open world fantasy setting and is planned to be released in North America on March 27, 2012, May 1, 2012 in Europe, and sometime in early 2012 for Japan.

Plot:

Quote:
During its raid on the fishing village of Casadeis, a dragon approaches the hero of the story, telling him/her that he/she is the “chosen one” and proceeds to tear out his/her heart. With his/her heart ripped out, the hero’s death is inevitable. However, through some unknown miracles, the hero is saved from certain death. Now revived as an “enlightened one”, he/she is destined to find and kill the dragon that stole his/her heart.

Gameplay:

Quote:
The player will be able to select between various types of characters, of which nine have been revealed so far: Fighter, Warrior, Mystic Knight, Strider, Ranger, Assassin, Mage, Sorcerer and Magic Archer. Gender choice and appearance settings will also be available.

While the player's party is exploring the world, the three party members who accompany the main character will be controlled by artificial intelligence, but the player can issue orders like "Go", "Help" and "Come to them". One of the party members is a non-playable character (NPC) and belongs to the main character's world. The other two party members are NPCs borrowed from other players by connecting online, but the game will not require an internet connection. However, the player can only borrow the NPCs from other players, not their main character. The party members will talk, seek out the main character's help, and will even provide information about enemies. The player will need to work on strengthening not only the main character but the party members also.

The game will feature a "grab" action, where the main character can grab on or cling to enemies. The player can use this feature for more advanced attack means. For example, the main character can either grab on to a giant griffon's legs and attack it directly, or climb up to reach the top of its head for a more lethal blow. "In a lot of action games, with big enemies the tendency is just to have you hacking away at the shins. You don't get the full effect of fighting a giant boss," Itsuno, the director of Dragon's Dogma says. "With this game you can climb all over it. If it has a body part, you can attack it." The ability to climb enemies has drawn comparisons to Shadow of the Colossus.

In addition to the large open world, Dragon's Dogma will also feature a large main city environment with over 200 NPCs who will move about according to their own time schedules. The player will be able to communicate with the residents in full voice.

The game is being designed to be playable even by those who aren't too skilled at action games. These types of players can recruit strong NPCs and let them do the fighting during combat as they watch over the battlefield.

Players can look forward to anywhere between 30 and 100 hours of game time from Dragon's Dogma, with the former figure for normal play with the latter figure for those who wish to dig in to the game

ALot of dragons lately!?

I dont mind.

I always thought this would be dark souls clone, which of course might not be entierly a bad thing. But there seems to be some changes. Maybe game will be somewhere inbetween Skyrim and dark souls, if such a thing exists? Guess I have to watch the footage...

edit: nm, looked at gamespot link, golem fight. Game reminds me of nothing from above mentioned games.

Man, Japan is really stepping up their game lately! (see what I did there? Cool Face)

Great games in the last few months and the next ones: Shadow of the Damned, Dark Souls, Asura's Wrath, Binary Domain, Lolipop Chainsaw, Dragons Dogma, StreetFighter X Tekken... to name a few; haven't mentioned the Wii/PS3 ones because I know about them, I don't know witch those are.

Good stuff! Good time to own a console! Very Happy

Dragons ARE the new zombies!

At first I kinda thought of this as the reponse toDark Souls, but it's quite different. And I like it!

No, it's not, that's just the internet going full retard again. It had noting to do with Skyrim and those people should stop spreading idiotic rumors. Not only is it misleading, it also raises false expectations.

It will be nothing like Skyrim, it's an open world action-RPG with squad based mechanics, made in Japan; think more Dark Souls/Monster Hunter.

I was right there with you, until you said "made in Japan" ... and then all hope was lost at Monster Hunter. Although with any luck the "dark souls" part of it will save it.

Man, with every gameplay video this looks better and better!

Was bummed out when PB "canned" Risen 2 for the console until late may, but so far Dragon's Dogma looks 10x better than Risen 2 (mostly because I'm not a fan of the pirate setting they have going on in Risen 2)!

TW2 and DD get my money in terms of 2012 first half RPG fix. Good gaming times ahead! Very Happy

LE: Exactly what Skyrim lacked; picking shit up and throwing it at people/off building... at people. And then levitate like a troll out of town. grinhurt

I agree , KoA had some great things..but lacks a challenge , I couldn't finish it. Not to mention generic side quests , combat was awesome tho.

KoA's combat was god awfully boring. Probably the worst part of that game, because if the gameplay is fun, I'll enjoy doing even the repetitive quests and such.

I had more fun grinding in Dark Souls then doing quests in KoA with "meaningful" combat. I often got the feeling that, in terms of combat at least, the devs had no idea of what they wanted to do and left the combat design for the end of the development.

In a game where fighting is more than 50% of the gameplay, having a boring, bland, unengaging, patched up combat system is the worst thing you could do to it.
Again, I'm bringing up Dark Souls because that game did it right. There are no new combos or upgrades in that sense, what you learn from the start is what you use 'till the end. It's more how the player learns to use his skills rather than holding off and unlocking skills as his character progresses through the game. A more rewarding feeling overall.

Hopefully Dragon's Dogma builds on that (DS) foundation as well. Very Happy
