http://store.steampowered.com/news/5063/

"Our partners and customers have asked us to make Steam available in more places. With the introduction of Steam on the Mac, and soon in Portal 2 on the PS3™, we've done just that," said Doug Lombardi, VP of marketing for Valve. "With big picture mode, gaming opportunities for Steam partners and customers become possible via PCs and Macs on any TV or computer display in the house."

Um.... this mode is exactly for those that DO "plug their tv into computer". Now they'll be able to navigate the Steam interface without mouse and keyboard sitting from their couch or whatever.

I still have no idea what you're talking about and how you could already do it??

Furthermore currently there's nothing stopping anyone from publishing a game on Steam with microtransactions so nothing's really changing. You can do it now, and you'll be able to do it in the future.

I don't quite understand,.. controllers were already supported by Source, 1080p resolution too. Sources engine binaries are also ported to 360/ps3 since many games are released. What is this news supposed to be? The steam games/friends browser on console?

STEAM. Not Source.
It's for HTPCs etc. You're going to be able to navigate, launch and manage your list of games with your controller.

It has nothing to do with consoles! -> "With big picture mode, gaming opportunities for Steam partners and customers become possible via PCs and Macs on any TV or computer display in the house."

Seems like WMC, but for games Smile
Personally, I already use my controller for HDTV browsing of... well, anything via Xpadder. I suppose it has more gain for those, who have only the HDTV connected. Otherwise you still have to deal with switching primary screens and all that - it's not just as simple as picking up a controller and launching a game then.

It's worth noting that since you can add any game on your list of Steam games (I mean even if they haven't be bought from Steam), you'll be able to use the updated client as a controller-enabled-and-designed-for-HDTVs launcher for all of your games, if you wish.

Valve is at CES. Pretty sure they'll announce it before it's over (January 13). So I'm bumping this, to be able to find the thread easier, once you know, it's announced LOL
