I read a review of the "budget" Sandy-E meant to replace the 2600K/2700K... And it's often slower than even the 2500K.

Note the frequencies used when comparing scores...

A 3.6GHz Sandy-E with HT enabled barely performs better than a 3.3GHz 2500K without HT.

2600K outperforms the 3820 even though the 3820 runs at a higher frequency.

(Lower is better)

Unless you absolutely have to go Socket 2011 with 4 memory-channels, a 2500k/2600k is the obvious choice.

Yeh, i was looking into buying one before just to get on 2011 but wasn't blown away by it's performance next to the 2600k

Lets hope for a better show from Ivy Bridge CPU's.
The evolution of CPU's in general over the past few years has not been brilliant.

The utter and total failure of Bulldozer and the lack of performance from the Phenom II's have affected Intels schedules to less aggressive. There's no competition in the performance segment. The only area I see AMD competing in is in the low-mid range APU/IGPU segment, something that is totally uninteresting to most of us here @ the hump and performance users everywhere.
