Quote:
December 1, 2011 - The Aleph One development community is thrilled to release version 1.0 of the Aleph One game engine. Since the release of the Marathon 2 source code, the team has worked diligently to deliver a cross platform game engine capable of bringing the classic Marathon games, as well as fan-made modifications to the modern Mac, Windows PC and Linux platforms.

Aleph One, an open source project, enhances Bungie's original Marathon games with modern OpenGL shader support, Internet co-op and multiplayer, modern mouse-look and gamepad support and plugin support for modifications.

To celebrate the 12 year development of Aleph One, the original Marathon games have been upgraded to take advantage of the new engine features.

- Marathon has been updated with a modern HUD, high resolution graphics as well as extensive changes to the scenario to create the most authentic Marathon experience since 1994.

- Marathon 2: Durandal has been updated with the high resolution graphics previously only available for the Xbox LIVE Arcade game.

- Marathon Infinity has been updated with high resolution graphics.

Free download here: http://marathon.sourceforge.net/

They were already available for free before but now they have improved graphics and come with easy to use installers. edit: actually there are no installers, just the archives that you extract somewhere and play!

Well Marathon was the old Apple Mac series from Bungie and, at the time, I never got around to playing it. By the time I got into emulation and ports, I'd lost interest :\ This should be fun to check out what the new enhancements for the Windows port is like Very Happy

Sounds nice, hopefully OpenGL won't see too many issues due to AMD drivers being a bit "unstable" but I'll see once it's downloaded. Razz

EDIT: I forgot how games like Doom, Blood, Wolfenstein, Strife, Arena, Daggerfall, Cyclones and so on used to keep me a bit shaken, this is going to be fun. Very Happy
(EDIT: Hexen, Heretic, Mage Slayer, TNP, Redneck Rampage and a lot more. Razz )

I was planning on using ABLoad.de here since I'm starting to understand how it works but it didn't work out in the way I wanted the images so I improvised and used the old site instead. Very Happy

Just clicking the direct link should avoid any problems with Imageshack, that and a solid pop-up blocker. Smile
(They use this one time per day ad when you first click on a image otherwise, even worse when you're viewing a thumbnail so I usually provide direct links.)

Not really It was released on PC, I played it and never had Apple products. I think it was released at the start of the 90s for Ms DOS i think it was 94 but i m not certain.

I checked wiki and they r wrong it was released for PC.

Marathon ONE was not released for DOS. Marathon TWO was LATER ported to Windows, but it was on the Mac for a while first, exclusively, and Marathon 3 was not released outside of Mac OS. The wiki is not "wrong"
