been having problems with my mouse registering two clicks instead of one sometimes lately, i'm guessing it's picking up one when i depress the button and another when i release.
it's working perfectly fine otherwise though and isn't that old and never given me problems before so i'm not thinking it's the hardware though, is this a typical problem for a mouse to exhibit when it's exceeded the amount of clicks it's rated for to the point it starts dying?
i'm also kind of wondering if it could be some sort of screen reader/copier type of malware designed to steal login info.
the mouse is a RAT 7, first hardware revision, had it since they came out.
i've also been noticing some intermittent stuttering while playing games, most noticeably APB Reloaded (probably, because that's the main thing taking up my time lately too though) i figured the stuttering was a bad memory chip and spent a few hours doing the process of elimination thing using only 1 stick at a time, that lessened the stuttering but it's still there, also did a cleaning while i was at it and noticed some dust near the memory module slots, but no apparent causes that i could see, no dust in any of the pin sockets or anything.
the fact that the memory doesn't seem to be the cause and only a possible contributor also kind of makes me wonder if it could be malware of some sort causing both issues.
i've tried moving the USB plug for the mouse to a different slot and it doesn't seem to have made any change either way at all.
anyway, any input, thoughts, suggestions would be really appreciated, i'm totally at a loss as to the next step to troubleshoot either of these issues.
[edit] just tested by holding the mouse button after single clicking to see if it produced a double click if i didn't release yet and it indeed did [/edit]

yeah actually i did now that i asked my mom, she had an old microsoft optical one that i plugged in for a few just now and it didn't do that.
FUCK, this thing cost me $100 and it died way before it should have, oh well, it might take some finagling and i might have to return the last few months worth of cans for cigarettes this month, but it looks like i'm getting a new RAT 7.
[edit]found a discussion on amazon.com about this exact problem, i knew it wasn't faulty hardware anyway, going to uninstall/reinstall, check settings.
Quote: | it cant be the mouse its self unless you are feeling it hit the button under the pad twice. double check all your windows mouse settings if you havent already. you want the enhanced pointer precision off and i have the windows acceleration turn down to about half way although i dont think that will help you. have you tried deleting the software and doing a re install including the driver for the mouse. thats what i would do first. then call the company the mice have a two year warranty. | [/edit]

i've emailed them about it since yesterday and not had any response back yet, posted a reply to the ticket this morning asking what was taking so long, is their support always this god awful slow?
first time i've had to contact support and not had a same or next morning response.
waiting on hold for someone to pickup at their tech support contact us phone number, ffs this is taking forever.
also, do any of you guys have the RAT 9? i got the RAT 7 right when it came out, so not sure if they'll consider that still within the 2 year warranty period and i'm tempted to get the wireless one instead this time if they won't replace it, two things i need to have answered first though:
1. if you remove the palm (rear) adjustable rest to remove the battery - not necessary but a lot of people say it's easier to pull the battery out this way - does the palm rest go immediately back to the length you had it set for before? or does it need to be adjusted to be at the same length as before replacing the battery?
2. on at least one forum in my searching i noticed a lot of people saying that if the mouse goes to sleep in it's power saving, or hibernating mode it can take quite a long time for the pointer to become responsive again, is this typical? if it spends more than a few fractions of a second waking up, that's a deal breaker right there easily.
also, does the RAT 9 use the sensor from the first revision RAT 7? the shit one that's been causing the mouse all the bad reviews from who didn't bother to find a mousepad that works well with this particular mouse and it's sensor type?
if no, does the sensor used in the second hardware revision have any other annoying quirks that will make me want to sausje (break) it? or is it purely an improvement over the first hardware revision with no new nasty suprises?

looked up the email i received when originally purchasing it and has been 1 year and 4 months, so they are still legally obligated to replace or repair this thing, thank god.

well.. so i contacted them again today and initially they wanted the old mouse shipped back - apparently as proof of purchase - and i finally told them "i'm not sure what i'll use with the computer in the meantime, is it alright if i just copy the confirmation email or something?" and they were fine with that too, the replacement is shipping today they said.
had to prod the customer service people a lot more than expected but otherwise the help i got was far better than i expected, definitely not going to consider any other brands when i need a new one partially thanks to how well it was handled.
