First of all:

My father worked at the Mercedes Benz headquarters for like 30 years before he died. That's why we have a "huge" discount, when we buy a Mercedes.
__________

The new C-Class came out today and my brother was one of the first to order one last year.

He's not in germany today, but he'll get his car next week. I'll post some pics when he's here with the new car.

he bought the C 200 BlueEFFICIENCY Limousine Avantgarde (4 cylinders // 184 HP // 6 gears) in black

all I can show you guys is a comparison between the old c-class and the new one.

c-class 2008:

c-class 2011 (Facelift)

I'm thinking about buying one too. It would cost me about 16k-20k. I'm not sure yet.

184HP/TQ for a car with that much weight = Meh.

But nice car anyways if you don't really care much about speed.

Diesel? I wish we had some more diesel offerings in the states. The way everyone drives around here (never revving above 3000 RPM) diesels would be perfect for 95% of drivers and get way better fuel economy.

I just have a hard time driving anything that can't do the 0-60 in <6 seconds, and 1/4 mile in at least under 14.5 seconds these days. To me, that is the bare minimum speed a car should have. Anything slower.. feels fucking slow. Not being able to overtake and basically own the road really irks me.

When I shipped my car over to the UK I had to drive for a month in some rental Nissan Primera. That shit was slow as balls. I nearly shit myself when I floored my Speed3 and forgot what 320 ft/lbs of torque at the wheels feels like. In the Primera (Which had average power/weight ratio) there isn't an option of speeding up at 60-70 MPH to quick overtake something. It just doesn't have the power needed at that point to make overtaking a reasonable option. All you can do is slow down. And god forbid you hit one of those fucking round abouts on the god damn highways here in the UK that completely rape traffic (Ever hear of a clover leaf UK?) and then spend the next 50 years trying to get back up to 70MPH, and then being forced to move over into the slow lane and get stuck behind a fucking lorry going 50MPH.

In the states it isn't a better option. Do the math on gas prices. Considering the price of diesel in the states, the mild fuel economy benefits do not outweigh the higher price of diesel in the US. Most direct injection petrol engines can achieve near-diesel fuel economy these days.

And the majority of turbo petrol cars out now make decent gas mileage, and are tuned to make quite a bit of torque down low to begin with. It just isn't a good option (from any consumer car perspective) in the states.

i find all new cars utterly boring

driving feeling: you are disconnected and isolated from everything, full drive by wire with all assists permanently on, give me fucking controller and monitor there at least there i can turn assists off

design: yea there are some good looking ones, but they are all overdesigned, nice to look for a time but then you get bored with design
late '90 neutral designs are the best

performance: absolutely unimportant, overtake somebody go little over speed limit in the next bush is the cop give money do it few times give license

had my time with highly tuned small light fwd car

UK sucks, buit seriously are there really roundabouts on the highway. Thats dangerous as hell. We have a warning sign here if the speedlimit is high and a roundabout comes up Very Happy Btw I was jelly Sad My car is fine and reliable, but Avensis is not that much lighter than a Camry, and only got 130hp. Norway is way to "green" so A LOT of extra tax on hp. And insurance goes up like hell to. So thats why you very rarely see anyone with more than 200bhp here.

So no, its not all bad in USA Very Happy

Gonna buy myself the coupe version in about 2 months. Which color would you pick?

#1

#2

#3

(It's a C 250 BlueEFFICIENCY Coupé with 204 hp / 7 gears (automatic / 4 cylinders)

It'll cost me around 25.000 EUR (that's 34.000 USD) (like I've already said: our family gets a discount, cus my dad worked at the mercedes headquarters here in south germany for about 30 years)
