Bit silly title, they're planning a beta soon and I figured I should make those requirements clear, it's by Futuremark the company behind 3DMark Vantage and that range of benchmark utilities.

Website.
http://www.shatteredhorizon.com/
(Registration also from here, also wants a system scan to know what hardware you have, improves beta selection chance as well.)

Video.
http://www.gametrailers.com/game/shattered-horizon/10127
(Just a small teaser at the moment.)

Screens.
http://www.ag.ru/screenshots/shattered_horizon
(Also not much here.)

Estimated minimum requirements and some other stuff.
http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,687459/Shattered-Horizon-Most-demanding-game-ever/News/
(Though I don't see them as that high aside from DX10 being required.)

Well, looks good, a bit obvious when considering it comes from Futuremark Smile, but I hope it's not just a benchmark and/or engine demonstration.

I remember when Vantage came out, I was wondering when they are going to use the space benchmark engine in a game. Good to see they are using it (I only assume, but why not?) finally. Smile

I don't know if it's using parts of Vantage but it's a bit similar, albeit this is a game primarily and not a benchmark from what I've understood from the forums, still they do push requirements and accessibility a bit with DX10 as a requirement.

I guess it could be seen as a sort of title similar in concept to Americas Army.
(Not as what they have in common as such but as a primarily online focused FPS title.)

Seems the beta will begin soon. Smile

And I'm pretty sure it'll be a retail title although it might only be available via download in the beginning.

I don't really believe a benchmark studio like futuremark can produce a really good game, but I wouldn't mind beeing proved wrong Smile

but it's not a space sim? what exactly is it then?

It's kinda like a multiplayer oriented first person shooter in zero gravity in space or something like that from what I've understood.

Far cry 1 was originally a benchmark program or tech demo or something. They made a game out of it, lol, up to you whether or not you thought that was any good.

How many people here (and come on, be honest now!) can really get a great score on Vantage and the space benchmark? Seriously?

I fear Futuremark are selling their product to an incredibly small minority, regardless of price on Steam. I strongly doubt many are going to be able to play this game properly.

Hell, I get 30-40 in the space benchmark, but that's a static scene ... I don't want to imagine what it's going to be like in ACTION.

I seriously think Futuremark are setting themselves up for an enormous fail :-\

Hey, I have a friend, who at the time Doom 3 was released had a GF4 MX and was getting pretty much 3-10 fps throughout the whole game, and he finished it. Laughing So it's playable. Razz

Saved FOREVER!

But yeah, I know what you mean. Benchmarks like Vantage and 3DMark are pathetic, designed for one use and one use only; making people feel like shit and forcing them to upgrade to the latest nVidia rebranded piece of shit.

As long as my games run smooth, I'm happy!

Actually that article I posted mentiones that the game was demo'ed on a 8600 graphics card on a notebook. Smile

Quote:

During demonstrating the game on a notebook with a Geforce 8600, Futuremark did not turn on maximum details but graphics were convincing most of the times.

Shattered Horizon looks much better than on last year's Games Convention in Leipzig due to detail textures, SSAO (Screen Space Ambient Occlusion) and adaptive Tone Mapping.

It's not exactly like they're making a playable version of the Futuremark benchmarking software albeit the game utilizes that engine technology.
(Had they done that the game would indeed be less than playable for the majority of users, especially as it's multiplayer oriented.)

Well if it's like that, then I guess I'll stand corrected when the beta starts - or retail release comes. Sorry about that, was just under the impression it was the same engine that Vantage was based on, and would thusly be running shite Sad
