There are rumor that all printed maps that is available in domestic market are transformed. The goal is to make the map useless for military situation to protect the safety of the country.
Thought this was pretty cool. Basically, China has an army of censors that go in and make online maps useless by randomly changing them. You only realize this when you use Google satellite view and overlap it with existing maps.
You know when I was drafted we (the Dutch) had a zone to defend in Germany. I as medic in front zone did not even get a map, let alone that I could see that the map was perhaps distorted. We also did not get a radio so no breaky-breaky there. Never mind but why do you need maps for in China?
Oh I don't know. Maybe I want to know where I'm going? lol
Btw similar distortions of maps happen in the USA around the Pentagon, national monuments, military bases, prisons etc... Hell, GPS won't even work in these places.
So basically the same. I think if you go to China on holiday you have a permanent guide anyway. Seems like China is preparing to become a world power. On the other hand I don't see the ideology there to become a fascist nation. Don't get me wrong here, a lot of the Chinese do seem to think that they are racial superior, but it seems at this point they just want to beat the Western World in the western game.
