i'm posting this on behalf of lutzifer who accidentally deleted his xp-system-partition when trying to install windows 7 (he wanted to do a dual-boot-install). are there any good programms to completely restore the partition or do you know any good free data recovery tools to get at least the data back?

thanks in advance and greetings from teh lutzifer!

I used it before, for that exact purpose (I think) and it worked fine. It runs in DOS

Did he actually delete his XP partition or did he just overwrite the partition table?

Or did he start installing Win7 on top of it? Cause in that case, it might be a lot harder to get a 100% return of intact information...

Boot from a linux live cd, see what is in the partitions. Forget about the lost data.

Lutzipoo cannot into dual boot? Laughing

Anyway, I've used stellar phoenix data recovery tool and that worked alright, but in my case it was to recover the data on a disk that fell to the floor.
Dunno how well it works to recover a lost/erased partition.

thanx guys. Laughing
i m on my laptop atm and i "only" erased the partition (by accident, after win7 fucked with me in the installation menu, after having installed the intel raid drivers...)

i ll keep you updated. Maybe i ll just have to live with the fact, that i fucked it up for good this time... :/

10 years, really ? Cool, I guess it's stable, but I see no reason to upgrade from my custom win98 SE with extras and ME additions.

Yeah reinstalling features and programs is also what keeps me from reinstalling fresh windows recurrently. Shit has to work, period.

Just go into the restoration process with the understanding that you are probably not going to get back 100% of what was deleted, especially if there has been much time that has passed since the initial deletion. For me is the one of best data recovery tool https://www.pandorarecovery.com/partition-recovery.html very powerful and esay to use, recover files and partitions.
