So today we can jailbreak iOS 5 on pretty much all devices, excluding iPad2.
Also, at the moment it's a tethered jailbreak, which sucks.
Waiting for an untethered iOS 5 jailbreak!

Why? I've been running iOS betas (and now GM) with tethered JB and I've had no problems. How much do you restart your phone? I don't ever.
The only thing that doesn't function properly yet is Mobile Substrate, so a lot of Cydia tweaks don't work yet.

To be fair, when I used to jailbreak my iPhone(s) I would have to restart at the very least every couple of days or so. I've never had good luck with jailbreaking and stability.
With the vast improvements of iOS 5 with notifications, and the fact that my iPhone 4 is legit unlocked i've got no reason to jailbreak anymore, thankfully. Maybe the stability of that stuff has improved.

Will get my Iphone 4S tomorrow! It should already have latest iOS pre-installed with Siri. I am not updating it after that though. I will wait for an untethered JB first. If it takes too long, I will use tethered.. I wont lose any apps I buy now though once I jailbreak it, right? If so, Ill wait then until after I JB.
* I noticed you dont reboot your iphone. I dont see why anyone would have to. I read they are pretty stable. Maybe I will just JB it tethered and not wait. After reading some more, if your phone loses power it wont work unless you are at a computer to boot back into tethered mode. Not good. Will wait for untethered.

Hopefully you will be able to use the tethered JB at all! Seing that security on the Ipad2 was increased, Apple probably did some work on the 4S as well...
And I'd love to do the tethered jailbreak on my Ip4, but after the debacle with resn0w on 4.3.5 which had me resetting my phone 5 times I'll wait for untethered...

I better be able to JB the 4S! My only other option was to buy the iphone4 at 8GB for $99. Forget that. What I really need is to tether it to a laptop for internet connection since apple is so lame as to not allow flash or java.

There hasn't been an untethered JB since 4.3.3 :\ It's quite scary to think of... but it seems like these hacking teams don't really care about untethered JBing at the moment, they're more concerned with saying "Look! We did it first! We broke IOS5!" --- that's even if untethered is actually possible these days.
Given how 4.3.4, 4.3.5 and all the IOS5 betas remained tethered, I'm leaning more towards the notion that they CAN'T untether it. There's all this song and dance about "not burning exploits" but that's nonsense.

I just got my 4S last Friday and love it! However, I have yet to restart it or shut it off. I dont have any reason to. Ill give it a bit more time for untethered, but wont wait too long. Ill install the tetherered version than since I dont think it will be an issue at all.

As above please correct me if i'm wrong, but there is no tethered version for our 4s's!

I think i read somewhere that cronic dev team did say there will be NO tethered jb only untethered for the 4s. they found something like 5 possible exploits! can't remember where i read it though.

Yes, they are using a PDF and SSL exploits that were found in old versions of iOS, exploits you really don't want to have anyway in your OS and browser.

There isn't because Apple fixed both exploits with 4.3.4. But if you use your browser on the iPod, you really don't want to be running 4.3.3 with the certificates exploit, now that it's known. Not sure why would your iPod crash. Mine never crashes. What you put there? Perhaps some shitty Cyida stuff that makes it unstable? :\

Naw, games mostly. It's a rare occurrence granted, but not unheard of, and - like Windows - IOS gets bogged down quite quickly so a reboot is definitely needed from time to time.

What does the hardware have to do with jailbreaking? 4s and 4 are running the same software version once updated. Seems odd 4S can not be jailbroken tethered.

I read that apparently the boot sequence was changed in Ios5, which also makes it impossible to capture SHSH blobs at this time. And this affects an untethered JB in some way. Article was german though, so no use linking it I guess...

Heh, I'm still running 4.3.3 on my iPod3 and I'll do so until an untetherered JB arrives. I'm seriously unlucky and don't want to run the risk that my iPod crashes or has to be rebooted when I don't have access to my computer ... such as the upcoming trip to England.
