Find out how many people die each year/kill other people each year from alcohol related crashes. Then find out how many die from marijuana. That shold speak volumes.

Way more people drink alcohol than smoke marijuana though.

It doesn't matter. There are virtually no marijuana related crashes (yes, some harder drugs cause a lot of driving impairment). And virtually no attributable deaths to marijuana. How about alcohol? Let's see ...
- in 2003, 17, 401 alcohol related traffic fatalities in the United States (U.S. Transportation Department)
- in 1996 the number of attributable deaths to alcohol was 19,709 total in the U.S. (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism)
- in the UK in 2001, alcohol responsible for 6% of deaths in the young adult age group (BBC News)

It is true that alcohol is much worse than weed.
It's not fair that alcohol is legal and weed is banned.
I agree with u dudes that we should join together and try to pressure the government to ban alcohol.
It would be very hard to make it illegal though because people could just go abroad to buy booze and smuggle it back plus other problems like people brewing their own beer at home and stuff. Anyway my friend... we can work out the technicalities later. How is the .doc file coming along? maybe we can print it out and hand it to people at pubs and stuff.

Take a look at "The Hemp revolution". It's a very interesting documentary about the marijuana plants. Just look at the deathtolls for Cocain, alcohol, tobaco etc. Even coffeine is more dangerous than marijuana. Sadly, marijuana aka weed is classed as the most dangerous drugs together with heroin and cocain etc. Everything depends on the government and todays economy. Marijuana just won't fit for it.

Coffeine may not give the same effect at the moment but it is more serious in the long run.

bullshit.
It is not proven that a small amount of alcohol is bad for your health.
As always, too much is bad.
But it is proven that every small amount of weed is bad.
Ow yeah, cigarettes are bad too, but not forbidden.
Well i guess you cant fight the 1.000.000.000.000.000 $$ industries

Hash = Wead, basicly. Hash is made from what is left of the cropping of the wead. you filter the left over leaves and the powder that the flowers lost over serveral times till just the tiniest bits are left. then this powder gets pressed together heated and dried. that's all.
marijuana disables braincells by locking special receptors, but after some time (weeks, month) the body is able to build it down again and the cells work just like normal. only in the growth phase of humans this can damage the brain. of course, just like with everything, it is important to take it responsibly and in the right ammounts. as long as not taken on a every day basis, i don't think the effect will harm you. other are the psychological effects. yes it can make you lazy and letargic, dismotivated and all. but that's too if used too much. be carefull with people having had psychological problems in the past, cause it might be able to start a psychosis that was lurking in your braincells anyways. i would advice taking it first in controlled circumstances. stay at home with some friends. enjoy some music and eat some stuff. sitt down and chat. most pleasant.
alcohol kills brain cells. period. no point of return. but then again it only does it in high dosis.
and yes everything is unhealthy if taken too much, but there is also stuff that is dangerous in very small quantaties....so that argument is bullshit.

i think its pointless trying to pick the lesser of the two evils.
on that note, it is extremely hypocritical for the government to impose bans on weed and not alcohol. heh, chris rock had an interesting theory about this and said that the reason why they do it is cuz the "the best damn weed" comes from brown nations, such as columbia, cuba, afghanistan etc. the last thing the government wants is to lose a great deal of their gdp to these nations. the reason why most western nations are as successful as they are is at the expense of imporverished countries. lets face it, resources are limited, tehrefore u can either share a candybar or u can choose to have the whole thing.
also, doesnt the government realize the fact that its impossible to make laws that regulate private morality? u can't make laws against masturbation, u can't make laws against homos... ppl are gonna do all that anyways. they've already witnessed this happen during the prohibition days during the nationwide alcohol ban, so you gotta wonder why these "laws" are really there.

The older age group has the most votes, and they will never vote another drug in. Alcohol is bad enough, this forum proves that fact.

You're right ... it's not fair you sarcastic ass. I don't think alcohol should be illegal. Both should be legal. I should be able to choose myself what I do to my body - not the government.
Weed= bad for you; alcohol=bad for you; smoking=bad for you;

it actually lowers your iq, reduces your short term memory... and prevents nausea through blocking of the serotonin type 3 receptor (good for medicinal use)
anyways, that's well documented facts above...
now in personal experience, all of my friends who started smoking like crazy have gone from top of the class intelligent people to stoned retards. no offense or anything, but they've fucked up their lives with this "harmless" substance
I'm obviously not going to argue about alcohol use, I enjoy it, but i think it should be banned too, while it's nice in moderate amounts, there are too many stupid people out there who end up driving, or are fucked up in the head and get violent. anyways just my thoughts. smoking cigs should have been banned years ago too, disgusting habit.

Amen. Especially since we are talking about something as small as weed. It all depends on the person whos using. I know people who 'trip' on weed like on acid. I know people who can trip for 16 hours of 10 hits and be in total control (ok its me). I know people who can drink couple of 12 packs, but still drive home without any smallest problems. I know people who can have a redbull and get jumpy like they snorted.
As far as which is worse for your body, its a hard topic. They are both bad. But so is the smog in LA, Nutrisweet in your diet coke and food coloring in your cookies But nobody seems to give a shit about that. There are bigger problems in life so live and let live.
btw. I know this post doesnt really help your 'resarch', but its just an opinion based on personal experience.

I smoked weed throughout high school, my undergraduate degree, and now I'm smoking it during my MSc degree. So there's two sides to every coin.

Most of the people I knew who smoked weed in school eventually got "bored" of it and moved on to speed, ectasy, acid and sometimes harder stuff. Now whenever I see them and we are going to go out all they think about is what drugs to take like life is so boring they need to be on something to have a good time. But maybe if it was legal the attitude would be different, when peoples grandma's start smoking it, people would think of it just like smoking cigarettes instead of a secret cool illegal underground thing.

If it was difficult to get a degree, this might mean something. As it is, I know rather stupid people who are on university courses,

why are u people trying to say ones better than the other ?
Each thing has a different effect on every single person
I know people who have been DESTROYED by weed.. and i know people who smoke it and are fine as... and the most onto it people i know
Weeds bad for your health.. booze is bad for your health.. mcdonalds is bad for your health.. not excersizing is bad for your health.. writing this post is bad for my health
I know people who are 89-90 and drink every day.. they are going hard still
All you guyz saying that all these thigs should be banned blah blah blah are idiots... why would u want to ban booze ? cause some idiots drink and drive ? blame the people not the booze.. if u cant handle booze.. then dont drink it.. if u cant handle weed.. dont smoke it.
