Long ago, before the world as we know it came to exist, the world was nothing but an endless ocean. That was until two giant titans came into existence. The Bionis and the Mechonis fought a timeless battle, until one day only their lifeless bodies remained, forever locked in battle.
Eons passed and life came to be on the corpse of Bionis. Civilizations were founded and life flourished. But the peace was not destined to last, and one day the Hom colonies came under attack from the Mechon, a horde of machines from the world of Mechonis. The Homs fought to defend their existence, a battle which would come to be settled at the battle of Sword Valley. With the help of the legendary sword Monado, which has the power to penetrate Mechon armor, the Hom's hero Dunban was able to fight off the Mechon. However, wielding the Monado caused great harm to his body. Nonetheless peace had been restored. Or so it seemed.
One year later the Mechon returns as if from nowhere, in greater numbers than ever before. With Dunban unable to wield the Monado a second time, the young Shulk picks up the legendary weapon. He experiences previously unknown powers of the blade, and manages to fend off the attackers. However, the Mechon has already managed to cause a lot of losses, and the mourning Shulk decides to avenge those who lost their lives.
Hey Gvaz, I actually just started this game and it seems pretty awesome. That being said, how is the story in this game? Does it have a satisfactory ending? How would you rank the storyline compared to say Final Fantasy 7 and Final Fantasy X or Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross? And how long did it take you to beat it?

The story is continually interesting and feels fresh. The ending is satisfactory, it resolves things but it just leaves you wanting Xenoblade 2.
I've never finished any of those games, but I've played all of them about halfway. I love rpgs but imo for most of them I get bored halfway through for whatever reasons I might have at the time.
This game I've done without sleep because I'll be awake and thinking xenoblade, and how I want to see what happens next, and how I want to complete some quests and get the rewards and all that.
It took me 100 hours to do everything in the game, and get to 95 (99 is max level).
However I'll admit that's with me using cheats to craft max gems early (you aren't supposed to till New Game+) and when you pick up an item you get 99 of that item. I think I would have spent 50 more hours or less trying to get all the optional stuff normally. Sure I didn't have to have it, but compulsions while not willing to spend the time to get it normally :V
Those aren't faults with xenoblade, but rather I simply don't have the patience for that sort of thing in any rpg. Xenoblade is rather easy about that sort of thing, in that shit you need for a quest drops from the creature you kill (though skillbooks and other minor things are rare(r)) and if you need 5 of them as drops, at most you'd have to kill 7 or so. Is there not 7 in an area where they should be? Quicktravel to a location, then quicktravel back and they'll respawn.
Yep, there's quicktravel. It's extremely helpful since the zones are so large. They're not perfect, nothing in this game is. However the biggest feature is it includes all your favorite rpg features, but then makes them not too tedious or too boring.
Did I say all? Because I meant all or close enough anyways. This game is fucking jam packed with content, but not to the point of being bloated. It all fits.
Phenom II X3 720 @ 3.7
8gb ddr2 dc
1gb hd4890 and I'm playing it on my 1920x1080 monitor on the side since my x1200 is fucking up with red lines
I'm playing with a custom build based off 3.0-95 with some various settings and it rarely ever goes below 30fps. However the only way for me to do that is enable an option that corrupts the save screenshot (not the save file) but that doesn't matter for anything so who cares.
hope this helps
edit: 30fps is full speed. the pal version runs at 25fps but there's a patch that makes it think it's the jap version which then runs it at 30/60 cpu/vps
Aye, you need 3.6Ghz and above. My E7200 runs at 3.6 and it's 25fps (I haven't tried the patch yet) 90% of the time. It dips during heavy fights, but not enough to ruin gameplay enjoyment.
There are minor issues like audio if your computer isn't fast enough or you got too much shit running in the background or whatever, but I hear there's a fix for that (i tried it and it changed nothing) and sometimes it will crash just several times randomly...but I played for like ten hours yesterday with no crashes so ymmv
That's pretty much it though, there's nothing gamebreaking because of the emulation.
I finished this game a few weeks ago (62 hours, mostly main story with some sidequests) and it was a blast. Highly recommended. I intend to eventually do a New Game+, tho what's putting me off is that going through the game from the beginning as a high level might be kinda boring - demolish everything in your path. Anyone know if you can say, reset your level through a Dolphin cheat or so?

so would an i5 2500k + ati 6950 be enough for this? considering it only has 3,3ghz (can't be arsed to OC it right now)
I have a i5 2500k with a GeForce 560Ti and I had no problems at all, tho mine was at 4.0 Ghz. However, a friend of mine had no issues playing it on his computer..not sure what specs exactly he has but he ran it at 2.8 GHz (stock). I think his vid card is a Radeon 5xxx series. You should have no problems at all. Although, my friend used HLE for sound (I used LLE)..the former is easier on the CPU I believe.
Great game.. I was about 10 hours in when I got Disgaea 4 which has interrupted my playthrough but I'll get back to it.
I just wish it was on PS3 or 360 as the lowres wii just sucks... it also doesn't run well enough for me on dolphin (Q8300 @ 3ghz, radeon 6970).. I mean.. it runs fine most of the time.. but the occasional sound glitch or 20 fps cutscene where everything goes to shit iss worse than the low resolution on my wii which at least has no sound problems or other bugs.

Texture Cache (leave as is, second to the right)
External Frame Buffer is DISABLED
Disable per-pixel depth is checked
OpenCL and OpenMP texture decoders are checked (optional)
If I didn't mention something, don't bother with it, leave it unchecked.
What version of Dolphin do you have, mate? A few of your settings aren't available on the latest SVNs. IE; there's no option for "Scaled EFB Copy" - there hasn't been for quite some time. Same goes for "EFB Copies > Texture" -- now it's just "EFB Copies | Disabled/RAM/Virtual" - another missing option is "Texture Cache"
Other than that, my settings are already identical to yours - save for "50fps limit" as I just leave that on Auto.
Aye, it's one of the RARE handful of dual-layer DVD games. Honestly, I think you can list them on one hand.. and off the top of my head I can only name two: Xenoblade and Metroid Prime Trilogy.

3.0-95 64 bit
Here's a similar build but not the same one I'm using. It has the xenoblade patch
I'm running 3.0 too, lol, though it's an SVN build; 7719. Basically no more than 30 days old (there are more recent builds, two of them, but both are listed as failed compiles)
Seems the ICC builds are a different branch entirely. I'll give yours a try, thanks =)
~edit~
Goddamn you Gvaz!! Your ICC version of Dolphin has considerably better audio in Skies of Arcadia using HLE (since LLE in SoE cuts framerate by 50-60%) but there's this horrendous "tick tick tick" glitch in the audio. What awful luck... this "hacked" build sounds so much better in HLE, if not for that irritating ticking. Talk about teasing!
~edit~
Seems this new 3.0-xx version is the "main" one now. The older xxxx SVNs don't seem to be supported any longer. Guess it's time to switch to -xx so I got 3.0-96 without the audio hack and the tick-tick-tick has gone - not to mention Chocobo's Dungeon runs great now! No more broken visuals or glitchy gameplay.... except for the spikey-poly mess of the area map
Naw, it's all good mate.. I found the standard 3.0-96. No audio fix, which means SoA sounds like ass when ran in HLE, but at least games don't have the strange tick sound. Thanks for letting me know about the new branch!
I was wondering for weeks why this wasn't posted on here so I went ahead and did it. The game totally deserves it, so I hope this helps more humpers learn about it and go play it at least.
