|
 |
i think ive decided to get a 2500k for my new processor.. i mean price/performance makes sense... but how about the motherboard?
been reading here, and a lot of you are saying asus is a bit iffy... the evga boards that are available here are socket 1366 so those are out...
im thinking about gigabyte then... how do those stack up? i need something solid, that'll be a really good board i can learn to overclock with.. and also needs to handle my ultra-120 cooler and gives enough room for the stuff i want to hook up to it
at the moment i have an evga 680i, so that would be the comparison board i guess.
looking at:
$578.95 NZD - GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD7-B3 INTEL Z68 DDR3 USB3+SATA3 RAID SLI+ CROSSFIRE LGA1155 PCI-E
(but is it really worth the money?)
$444.95 NZD - GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD5-B3 INTEL Z68 DDR3 USB3+SATA3 RAID SLI+ CROSSFIRE LGA1155 PCI-E
$365.00 NZD - GIGABYTE GA-P67A-UD5-B3 INTEL P67 DDR3 USB3+SATA3 RAID SLI+ CROSSFIRE LGA1155 PCI-E
alternatively, if you have the time, go here: and build me a 2500k/mobo/ram set - the drop-downs list all available ram sets/mobos that the site has that will work with the chip.

Why don't you go for a MSI GD55 or GD65?
Intel i7 6700K, RTX470 Super, Kingston HyperX Fury 32GB

i guess im going none of the above.
after comparing shit, and thinking about how much i want to spend for what i want it to do, i think im going to go for the asus p8p67 pro b3, with the 2500k... i mean i dont want to go crazy with the price, i want something thats solid, and gives me some room to learn a bit of overclocking.
so it'd be:
2500k
asus p8p67 pro b3
2x4 gb corsair vengeance 2x4GB DDR3-1600 CL8
and that goes with my gtx 570.
reasonable setup?

Get the basic p8p67 B3,pro's not that worth if you value ya money..
i was going for that setup (except it would be 2500 without the k,not an OC'er here),the same board without PRO and,to start with,4 or 8 GB of RAM...thou i have a 460GTX
Worth the money in my opinion...also pick up a Zalman CNPS10X EXtreme or something for the CPU Cooler
ASUS X570 TUF GAMING PLUS, 32GB DDR4@2666 ,RYZEN 5800X3D (NO OC),GIGABYTE RTX 4070 Super GAMING OC, Western Digital Blue 4TB 5400RPM + SAMSUNG 860 EVO 500+1TB GB SSDs , OEM SATA DVD 22xNoctua NH-D15 Chromax Black, BenQ XL2420T Case: Be Quiet! DARK BASE PRO 901. PSU CORSAIR RM1200 SHIFT

^ 2500k and 2600k are practically the same when considered to be used for gaming. As well as their overclocking capabilities.

Well, if he's aimed at heavy encoding or rendering, or other multi-threaded tasks, the 2600k's hyper-threading would be beneficial. But purely for gaming - it won't matter which one of the two CPUs is chosen.

Tho 2600K generally overclocks better than 2500K. But Sandy Bridge at 4Ghz destroys everything, after 4.5Ghz its not worth to overclock usually more considering how much voltage bump it needs.

And I didn't even have to comment in here, we seem to have a whole bunch of people who have been looking at Sandy Bridge systems
@ chiv: sure they will. As in "where did I leave that copy of Crysis 2, so I can destroy it after having seen Crysis 1 again"

No BIOS nor RAM configuration in BIOS on first boot?..i mean, you just placed everything and you didnt even configured the BIOS and it worked at 1st time like a charm without Cold booting?...aka many reboots to make it start ?

"scratches head"
only thing i did was set it to run dx11 hardware and configured my 360 pad...
i did the speed hacks, but only ticked the recommended boxes and left the cyclerate and cycle stealing sliders on 1 (default) and thats all...
but yeah.. i just boot the iso and it always works straight away...
have been playing around with scaling so the fps took a bit of a hit, but @ around 40fps stable, its smooth enough to play.
additionally, is coretemp accurate? it says im running @ 22 degrees C for each core at the moment. is that normal or is coretemp giving me some funky numbers... my old processor was always idling at like 45 for each core....

bah you quoted the ps2 bit!
only thing i did was to play around in the boot settings in the bios... windows blue-screened when i tried to start the machine up, but i didnt really care (and it was probably fixable), i was planning a clean install and upgrade to 64 anyway.
----
only problem im having is my soundcard isnt being detected. im worried its a problem with the motherboard... id rather the soundcard was dead.
its a soundblaster xtremegamer oem, and whenever i try and install the drivers i get an error saying setup is unable to detect a compatible product or something along those lines, and i KNOW i have the right drivers.
i wonder if theres some settings on the bios i need to fix, some motherboard drivers or apps i need to download, or the card doesnt like 64-bit windows 7... on my evga board with win7 32, it worked ok..
