My friend has an old phat PS3 and after it's on for about 5 minutes, the fan turns on and seems to be running at max speed. It sounds like a jet engine is taking off. He had already sent it to Sony for repairs but the returned unit still has the same fan problem. Is there anything he can do to fix it?
Yes, put the machine somewhere with better ventilation - or get AC for your home. The fans are PWM, they increase their speed when the temperature gets hotter inside the machine, so make sure there is plenty of ventilation - especially for the old phat models.
