Quote:
Now more gameplay details have trickled out ahead of what THQ has teased will be an announcement at German show Gamescom next month.

With Dawn of War II, Relic dropped base building – although it did feature in a reduced way in the game's multiplayer.

"We brought some base building back with Retribution," McDermott continued. "With DOW3, because it's going to be a new version, we're looking at the game as a whole, and we're really upping the intensity.

"With the 40k universe, the tagline is: there is only war. We want to give you that greater sense of the war. The battle. The war that rages eternal, and make that feel like that's really imposing and all around you, and you have your own personal, custom army in there.

"Your army and my army should feel very different. That's where we would like to get to.

"We're trying to leverage even more so on the Games Workshop tabletop game, and then combine that with the game mechanics people have said, 'If you were to make a DOW3 we would like this kind of balance of things,' and what we think would be good for strategy games as a whole.

"We're looking at all that stuff really carefully. And I'm sure you've probably heard this as well about Relic – we have a big announcement at Gamescom."

I hope they bring back base building and up the unit limit to more traditional levels. I still enjoyed DOW2, but I missed the bases and larger armies from 1.

It's pretty obvious they are gonna take a semi-mmo route with this one. Let's see how slightly that will be.

It won't be, it will just be dawn of war 3. Relic doesn't care anymore about homeworld and just lets the franchise collect dust.

They care about Company of Heroes. They said they are working on "the next step" of the CoH franchise a few months ago.

Im liking what i read above. No base building for me please! Build defenses, lay mines, traps are all ok, but no magic factories.
Anything closer to the tabletop is a plus.

Actually, I'm surprised there hasn't been a tabletop-version for the PC, like the homebrew/indie version of Space Hulk. That would be righteous Very Happy

I just want Homeworld 3. Relic also owns the rights and materials to Amen: The Awakening. That'll never happen though.

I'm gonna have to sound like a fanboy and say i trust relic on this one. Even if DoW2 was quite a bit different from the first one I personally found the overall gameplay to be a lot more fun and the campaign was really fun and unique. What I did dislike was some of the ridiculous boss fights and the high amount of crap items you would obtain.

If I got to choose we would see DoW3 follow the formula of the second game but upping the scale quite a bit. Give us bigger battlefields and let us command more units. While I don't really miss the base building I would like to see some kind of unit that is able to build defensive building like turrets, bunkers, shield generators ( if those exist in the lore), radar stations and other things that would help out in the battlefield.

There was a time when I said Relic can do no wrong, but these days I'm a bit sceptical. I liked DoW2 but it was very simplified in some areas. Still looking forward to their future games though.

GW wouldn't allow it..it would compete with their main revenue stream.
Bloodbowl is one thing, people don't spend near as much on that as they spend on regular warhammer or wh40k.

Sad but true, which is why GW went to so much trouble to shut down Teardown's Space Hulk e-boardgame, despite the fact that it was FREE >_<

Hardly. Large part of the game is painting and models - in other words, hardware - not the actual TT gaming - e.g. codex books. And that would never disappear as long as there are no 3D printers that can produce voxel-material-perfect results. Smile

tunnel vision from Games-Workshop. I think their tabletop games would actually benefit from the new fan-base increase. They would make a killing on DLC.
But then again nobody ever did a proper Turn based game based on their physical ancestors. except maybe the the Combat Mission series.
WH40k would be perfect with all the close action tactical play.

A lot of hush hush, but since GW owns the license and can do with it as they please (I doubt they have signed any exclusivity), I don't see why not. Probably after Company of Heroes 2.

Fingers crossed, then. Loved both titles, as different as they were. Let's hope Relic can bring something nice to the table once again.

Sadly, I don't think this one will be along those lines.

That trademark was filed in 2008 but last updated a few months ago. So maybe the game does exist.

I hope it plays like DoWII and not I. Fuck base building. And I also hope Relic does it. And it's not planned for consoles.
