I just built a rig for my 8 year old son and he has never used a PC before. He has a Nintendo 3DS, a Wii U and plays on xbox but PC controls are new to him.

I'm looking for suggestions for games which are:

- easy to control (perhaps primarily mouse controlled)
- up to the age of 12
- no graphic violence
- system requirements don't matter Wink
- multiplayer/co-op
- perhaps not as fast paced
- not too much to read
- must still be fun for me Very Happy

I'm a gamer and have played pretty much anything that is available but I can't really come up with any suggestion straight up... I was thinking, perhaps an RTS which is soley controlled by mouse because in a team game / vs game he could take his time to learn it. On the other hand, an RTS has a pretty steep learning curve as far as game mechanics are concerned...

He likes Minecraft on xbox. Recently I bought Planet Explorers which has multiplayer but I would prefer some ISO demos Wink to get started instead of buying games which he may have his difficulties with.

Back in the days I started with Pacman and Tetris on the DOS-Prompt. I don't know man, times have changed ... What would you suggest? Smile

Thanks! Very Happy

Not sure what you are into but here are some games we played and really enjoyed. I'm assuming my kids are younger then yours but my 6 year old can play and enjoy all of the games listed below.

Lego games (LEGO Marvel Superheroes, The LEGO Movie - Videogame, LEGO Harry Potter)
Brothers - A Tale Of Two Sons
ibb & obb
Shadow Puppeteer
Tobe's Vertical Adventure
Wyv and Keep: The Temple of the Lost Idol

I could recommend many other games for you, but these are the only ones I can think of and fit your criteria. I'd also like to suggest getting a wireless receiver for Xbox controller since you already have one. Will make playing all the games much more kid friendly.

Algodoo! It's not a game, but it's fun anyway Smile And yeah, why don't you let him play Minecraft properly on the PC? He'll enjoy the bigger worlds, mods and varied elements Smile

Also racing games Razz

Don't really know besides what has been mentioned, but if he and you want a cool racing game: Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, also Burnout Paradise

Portal 2 maybe? Guacamelee? I don't even know... no graphic violence excludes a lot of games.

HAWKEN as a straight up multiplayer game? It's with mechs, pretty easy to understand, really fun. Not sure what playersbase it has now though.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed must be the ultimate fun game for kids. My son plays it from 3yrs (he's 5 now). Toybox Turbos also is a nice choice and Pr3pared with easy settings.
Maybe Cities: Skylines would be a good strategy game to start with at that age (Cool.

This is insulting. The kid is a derp only because he's not familiar with the use of a PC? Rolling Eyes
---------

If your kid don't have good coordination hand-eye with the mouse, maybe you could introduce him the Popcap games, a lot of fun, good challenge.
-Dynomite
-Insaniquarium
-Pixelus
-Rocket mania
-Hammer heads

Now, some co-op games:

-PixelJunk Shooter
-Platypus
-Disney Infinity 2.0: Marvel Super Heroes
-Beat Hazard
-Castle Storm (you can switch off the blood)
-RTS: Galcon Fusion

And add things like Trine 1+2 to it. Many, many platformers that are perfect fits.

And yeah, the kart games like Sonic above or stuff like Portal 2 are all great ones.

stop worrying about games with any shooty shooty etc. Those games suck you in so all you have to do as a parent is limit the time spent on them if you are that concerned, but then again he is not mine so Razz

dont give him a terrible first experience with pc gaming though or he will turn to the conderp side.

So many great suggestions already^^

I think these could be good candidates as well, don't involve violence or overcomplicated mechanics: Costume Quest, Psychonauts, Beyond Good & Evil, Jazzpunk, Bastion, Plants vs Zombies, Spore, Black & White, Fable, Scribblenauts Unlimited, Octodad, Worms Revolution, Sonic Generations, Castle of Illusion; and I probably missed dozens of good ones, but should be enough for now.

When I was 8 I got immensely pleased by the release of Doom, it was love at first sight . Razz I also have fond memories of games like Alone in the Dark, Gabriel Knight and many other titles not exactly for kids. I believe spooky stuff can be fun too, without exaggerating of course. I mean I turned out fine..ish..hmm...kind of Laughing

It's on sale at steam for 85% off. Got the complete edition for the both of us, it's the first thing we are going to try out after I get off work. Smile

As far as the xbox 360 controller is concerned... I do have one for Windows but I want him to get into WASD + Mouse Control, otherwise he won't ever learn. After all, I'm "training" him so that he can farm resources in games such as GRAV for me... That way I have a "cheap worker" and I can fully concentrate on the base building... *evil laugh* Wink

Thanks for all the suggestions, wouldn't have expected this many results. I guess we'll have more than enough to get started now! Smile
