I finnaly decided to buy myself a PSP since it has a gigantic game library by now. I see an offer for a PSP2000, which is already unlocked, for 90€ on a local site. Is the 2000 version fully hackable, even the latest firmware? Should i go for a 3000 or the Go version instead?

The 3000 and Go are tricky to crack, requiring some very meh workarounds, you'd be best off with the 2000 -- IMO. VGADeadcafe is more clued up with the PSP scene than I am lately, I just haven't been following it as much.

Ok great. I'll track down some more information in the meanwhile, gonna buy it tomorrow if everything will point to 2000 being the best for cfw.

To be honest, I *believe* the PSP2000 is the all-round best choice. It can be hacked as easily as the PSP1k, has twice the RAM, a better DPAD and can use the same homebrew/apps as the PSP1k - and even some that the 1k can't, like enhanced emulators, due to the expanded RAM.

Everything is pretty much hacked, you don't even need to use custom firmware. Well, you can't anyway on newer models.
You can run signed versions of any homebrew, among others a homebrew loader which launches almost all game isos. While being on official firmware.
After you buy it, either the used 2000 if it's in good shape, or a new one, post if you're not sure what to do. If you try to flash custom firmware on a 2000 model with v3 mmotherboard, or a 3000 or a Go, then you'll get bricked. Models up to the 2000 with the v2 or earlier mobo are flashable.
But like I said, newer firmware are exploitable so you can temporarily load hacked firmware or you can use signed homebrew.

Or buy a brand new 3000 and pirate all games.
Just don't get the Go, it sucks.

<3 my Go.. I have a 1000 and a Go and I use my Go all the time. The built in storage is ace and its tiny!
I use mine for PS games and emulators mainly.

6.39 PRO should be fine. You should run one of the identifying homebrew apps and find out exactly which model it is. Whether it's v3 or not.
You can play all playstation games, megadrive(genesis) , snes, gba, neogeo ... and n64 with low compatibility/speed.
Many older systems, too.
As for games, depends on which genre you prefer, whether you can handle the awkward FPS controls on the PSP, etc.
There are also great ports of PC games, like Doom, Quake, Tyrian, OpenTTD, Wolfenstein3D, Cave Story, Flashback, Powder ...

I've played FF7, Resident Evil 2 and Peace Walker on it, the screens a little smaller but not by much.
As for hacking it, I don't remember it being any different to the older models. With most good games being $10 anyway, I didn't feel the need to crack it. Once I seen how the stores differed with games however, I couldn't be stuffed with using 3 different accounts to play certain titles, so again the industry loses out because they can't use a unified solution that benefits everyone. It does my fucking head in. It's like the 3DS where all we can get on the estore are old GB games and shitty DSiware titles - when I can fire up my PC/Laptop and have a massive back catalog of SNES/NES/GB/GBA/GBC/DS/N64/GC/Wii games. |
Well i'm using MAME4ALL v4.9r2. It's the only one i could find. It always freezes when i try to launch a game though.
I'm quite satisfied with the 3000 so far. I looked at the Go and i really didn't like the design of it (don't like that slidie thing). How safe is going online with cfw on it?

Sorry for hijacking this thread. How easy is it to hack/crack/unlock or whatever it is, a PSP? Someone I know ís asking me to do it, but I won't bother if it's too much trouble.
It's a PSP3004 btw, says so on a sticker anyway. I'm a total newb here, advice would be appreciated.

It's really easy. For 6.39PRO CFW, you just have to update to 6.39 offical firmware, then download the CFW and put it on the memory stick (you make a folder called PSP in the root of the card, inside the PSP folder you make a GAME folder and put the CFW update in there). You launch the CFW and it's basically hacked. There are some nice tutorials on youtube walking you through every step.

Hey, i am researching the psp it seems almost dead but still has a huge library and can emulate some of the older consoles..
my question is.. if its worth to buy a psp at this state? and is the latest psps on sale able to put a permanet CFW? i see alot of temporary but couldnt confirm if you can go permanent with it and save the hassle of temporary..
would apretiate some opinions ty
