Slated to release in Spring 2017 on PS4 and PS Vita, the 18th entry to GUST’s popular Atelier franchise takes place after the events of 2016’s Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book, expanding on the series’ delightful narrative.
The second entry in the ‘Mysterious’ saga follows the adventures of the enthusiastic Firis Mistlud and her loving older sister Liane Mistlud. The Mistlud sisters have lived their entire lives in the isolated town of Ertona, where Firis uses her unique ability to see where crystals of materials are buried. By way of a fateful encounter, Firis learns of the Alchemy Exam and decides to take her first step into the outside world, setting off on a grand journey to become a certified alchemist and discover the mysteries that life has to offer! Players will experience a vast world with towns, environments and other locations reaching up to ten times the size of those featured in Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book.
Atelier Firis: The Alchemist and the Mysterious Journey takes the long-running franchise to greater heights with a brand-new option to choose which narrative path to follow. After passing the exam, players are able to follow three different paths that focus on the three key aspects of the Atelier series – Alchemy, Combat and Character relationships. Choice plays a major role in the events that can be experienced throughout the game, with the ability to switch between the three paths at any point during this grand adventure.

Different story but gameplay at least for the small bit at the start (Let me save dammit! ) was almost completely identical.
This will probably divide a bit further into the game and the game will stand on it's own I'm guessing.
(Also to save it's not as bad as I put it above but yeah do the initial small "quests" until you get home and then you can save via the book case in your house.)
EDIT: Oh and no mouse support and 1 - 4 somewhere on the keyboard should be for skipping the logo video at the start, gamepad recommended unless you're a pro with a keyboard (Numpad alone controls the camera and then you have the other keyboard for movement and of course gamepad button prompts.) or just don't have a gamepad.
It's doable but there are some few games where I might occasionally consider finally getting a proper gamepad.
Not a huge fan of the PS4 or the XBO pads though and on PC it seems you almost require a Microsoft gamepad because XInput restrictions over DirectInput but there's ways around this though icon sets for buttons tend to be either PS4 or XBO or occasionally, very occasionally both are supported.
Modding said textures can help for games that allow for it but it's a bit cumbersome though it's not as huge a problem as using the keyboard is even if the prompts might not fully match.
(Not the best description of it but yeah, gamepad recommended and the game might only have XBO buttons though it's possible it might switch to PS4 if a appropriate gamepad is detected, I can't test though I have my doubts.)
EDIT: As for the XBO and PS4 pads well of course if I were to sit down for a few days and familiarize myself with them that would work but eh, I'm stubborn, or just a slightly bit crazy.
(No pain no gain, said the masochist...and that doesn't exactly help but eh I'm already a bit weird so no change there. )
does the game play differ alot compared to sophie? or is it more of the same?
From what i read its more of the same but improved and expanded, apparently more "nomadic" whatever that means, storywise its new portag, new story but older Sophie is tagging along.
Will try to find the bulletpoints of comparision between Sophie and Firis
Reading on the forums ( http://steamcommunity.com/app/527290/discussions/0/135510669606009981/ ) the timer system from Atelier Sophie returns as well but where in that game it was mostly a extras (Growth of alchemical reagents, shops opening and closing and such.) in this it's actually a bit more critical during the first half of the game.

Seems the second half has no time limit however.
reading reviews seems like after you beat the game, you can do whatever you want without time lock things.
also, the game transitioned from "closed areas" to openworld afaik.
