It certainly can be installed on non-genuine OS but after that you may have nag screens if it doesn't detect your OS as genuine, dunno yet if the OEM emulated bios cracked versions will fall in this category. I would wait for the final version release.

appartently the full (rtm) sp1 will ask you to enter the coa sticker serial number if you have an oem bios installed, not sure how accurate that info is.

Quote: | We currently see two primary types of exploits pirates often use to generate counterfeit versions of Windows Vista. One is known as the OEM Bios exploit, which involves modifying system files and the BIOS of the motherboard to mimic a type of product activation performed on copies of Windows that are pre-installed by OEMs in the factory. Another is called the Grace Timer exploit. This exploit attempts to reset the “grace time” limit between installation and activation to something like the year 2099 in some cases. Implementing exploits involves extreme alterations to key system components and can seriously affect system stability.
So we are taking action. SP1 will include updates that will target those exploits and disable them. | http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/features/2007/dec07/12-03wga.mspx

did you read this "Windows Vista SP1 RC will no longer operate after June 30, 2008 and should be uninstalled prior to that date. After installation your desktop will show the text “Evaluation Copy”. This does not mean that your system is no longer genuine but that you have installed a test version of software which is time-limited. The “Evaluation Copy” text will appear on your desktop after the second reboot after installing the service pack. Likewise, the “Evaluation Copy” text will remain on your desktop during the first reboot after uninstall the service pack, but will disappear after the next reboot. "

I have build 668 installed and so far, 1 issue. Fraps crashes if I attempt to record video. I've seen others report the same thing. Not sure if it affects everybody though. Could somebody try and see if it happens to them too?
I'm thinking of rolling it back and just installing the 2 recent compatibility and reliability updates to see if it happens then.

The new copy protection enhancements are not in the current SP1 beta. They will be in the full one.

I used the RC, it slugged my system in the face. Slower hard drive reads, and it enabled a bunch of services that are unnecessary. I'll probably be installing XP back onto my new box with SP3 in it because of the travesty that is vista Sp1.
