SpicyHorse is a Chinese development house, so I guess Boneleech is talking about the low wages and long hours, which you tend to hear about when it comes to Chinese workers.

Also, Spicy Horse is an amazingly talented studio. I don't see why he would choose any other studio at this point. They already proved that they understand McGee's vision for the games they make, really well! Spicy Horse and American McGee fit perfectly.
Also, the artworks coming out of those people are once again absolutely stunning!

Yeah, that gave me pause too. I guess they're not familiar with what DRM means and how saying "no form of DRM" doesn't really fit well with "requires an internet connection to activate" (ala; SecuROM)

As much as I like the idea of "community based assets", I really despise the games I've played that use the Unity engine so far. Seems like PC Gamer article mentioned Valve as being supportive of maybe a game engine that devs can sell "modules" for. I just don't care for anything web-based myself. That was a problem I had with Minecraft (being Java based)... With a proper engine, it would have run like a pro on old PC's. A game as ugly as Minecraft should run on 8 year old hardware IMO. I realize that Java gives them the ability to make it work on portable devices and all, but still, make a proper game engine please people.

There's nothing wrong with Unity and there's everything wrong with Java. As far as I know Notch has said he used Java because that's what he knows well to use (and likes).

That's to be expected when your population reaches over a billion. US doesn't even have half of that and the best young people can do is mcdonalds.

They're all running on Unity. There's a ton more on mobile platforms that are incredibly fun too - such as Ravensword 1/2, Year Walk, RAD Soldiers, PID, Dead Trigger 1/2 and even the upcoming Breach & Clear.

The only one I can comment on that I've played was Mechwarrior tactics, which I didn't care for at all. I really disliked the engine, at least with that game. That's not to say I won't play a game that uses the Unity engine, as I like the concept and all. I will say that I played Dead Trigger on my Galaxy S3 and thought it was pretty cool, so there will probably be some that turn out very well. I think my problem is that, at least in the case of MWT, it was pretty much a browser game. As time goes on, and assets get better as well as programmers ability to build for it, my opinion could change (I'm not close minded and have/do change my mind if persuaded otherwise).
Guess we'll see once I find a game that uses Unity that I do like

Oh oh! Another one to add to the list; Satellite Reign! ^_^ I get your point though, browser games are hardly the pinnacle of gaming technology, but still; Unity has made, and is being use in, some really amazing games. IMO.

http://www.shacknews.com/article/80168/american-mcgee-cancels-ozombie-to-pursue-alice-film-rights
Quote: |
American McGee has abandoned the attempt to crowdfund his warped vision of the land of Oz in favor of another project: to secure the film rights to the Alice franchise.
McGee had originally included the film rights as a stretch goal for the OZombie game, as well as some Alice goodies for higher pledge tiers, but funding was slow and it was obvious that goal would not be reached. In announcing the cancellation, McGee said the Alice film rights had to take precedence for crowdfunding, so the Oz project needed to be terminated. He said that, while the decision was difficult, he was being realistic.
"As it is, we've reached 15% of our goal with 20 days left in the campaign. Projections suggest we'll hit 30% of our goal by campaign end," he said, adding that OZombie could be revisited at a later time.
He explained the process to secure the film rights previously when it was a stretch goal: "As with most things in Hollywood, the deal is a little complex. It's structured as a purchase option, which is like 'rent to own.' We pay $100,000 USD to secure the option, which also enables us to make animated shorts based on the Alice property. In order to purchase the license outright and be able to make a feature film we need to pay $500,000 USD in total. The initial payment of $100,000 USD goes towards that final purchase price."
McGee has already released the video for the planned Alice Kickstarter:
