I just had a chance for write a few applications with java, nothing major, but I absolutely hate it.

I hate their IDEs, both Eclipse and Netbeans. They're slow and netbeans was extremely buggy at the time I used it.

Various java subsystems I worked with were also quite buggy and unintuitive (often finding myself in situations where I spend hours trying to figure out why it isn't working, just to find that something got messed up internally and some obscure cache needed to be cleared to fix it. Which wasn't documented anywhere).

And of course my general experience from using Java applications I find them all to be extremely laggy.
