I'm thinking of getting a 3DS for my kid, and match it with R43DS card or something similar. Does anyone have any experience with those cards? Would you recommend something else, if it exists? I played around with iEDGE for DS and it does what it says and what I want it to do, but since I'm gonna dish out few hundred bux I would probably want to get the best and latest. Any problems with R43DS? Should I wait? Any chances of Nintendo bricking my DS via Wi-Fi like the rumors suggest?

Well I'll answer the unasked question right off the bat; you can't play 3DS backups on any available cart at the moment. The 3DS flashcarts are simply for DS ROMS, not even DSi, just the original NDS. As for Nintendo bricking the 3DS over wifi? It's certainly possible, but much like the Wii; they tend to give you the "this update is incompatible with software modifications and will likely render the machine unusable - are you sure you wish to install?" disclaimer like on the Wii. Even then, the 3DS has this always-on silent stuff, doesn't it? So I'm not sure :\

I see. Ty for quick reply. I'm really out of the loop when it comes to handheld consoles. I'm assuming my next choice would be DSiXL with one of the above mentioned iEDGE cards? Bigger, brighter screen compared to other DSes from what I read. Anything else I you can throw at me before I go shopping? Just read the the XL has different buttons then previous DS consoles? Is it much worse? Also, I'm not really set on iEDGE, but it's the only one I had any experience with. If you can suggest something better, please do.

The XL is the same as the DSi/DSi, it just has significantly larger screens. If you want future proofability, I'd recommend the 3DS. It plays DS titles as well as the newer, more advanced, 3DS ones -- and with a decent flashcart you can play the DS ones for free. I only have experience with two flashcarts, the R4 and the M3 - so my recommendation is to go with the new R43DS.
