In order to find out more about our legal rights on this matter, and possibly even fight this charge in court, I am asking all BitTorrent users to donate (no matter how small) to the TorrentBox Legal Defence Fund. Until I can afford to inquire a lawyer on this matter, I am turning off the ability to browse and download torrents from ths site. The tracker will remain on, and all torrents using it will now become anonymous and unknown to admins.
The bittorrent community is in dire straits, so please don't let TorrentBox die like the other sites! -Hohead |
This is seriously starting to piss me off. The MPAA and RIAA are really going after everyone they see now. First it was Napster. Then their customers. Then 12-year old girls. Then more customers. Then they tried to get into IRC. Now they're shutting down torrent sites and news sites en masse. Why the fuck doesn't anyone with balls and/or money stand up to these bastards?
Something has to be done, and apparently it's this community that has to do it. If these guys will have the resources to stand up to the MPAA, they're going to get them from us. I ask you guys on their behalf to do the least you can to stop these bastards, or at least give TorrentBox admins a fighting chance. Donate $5 to them. In the end it will be the best $5 you will ever spend.
note: I did not post a PP link due to the fact that NFOrce admins don't like them. Go to the site for the link.

The reason they are fighting is they make big bucks from advertising and they don't want to loose it, the same reason why the MPAA is fighting to keep their big bucks.

?? Why would Thiland have to dontate money to 9/11 ??? the USA has Billions and Billions and Billions of $ and doesnt require donations.
Thats like saying your a Billionaire and you want someone that gets paid something like a few 1,000 $ a year to donate you money to help build an extension on your house.

You my friend... are an idiot. Just because I download warez doesn't make it right, i wouldn't go protesting the streets claiming the 'right' to download warez.
To me them fighting back is fair game, it's not hypocritical, I'm not saying that I'm happy with them shutting down sites ect, but its still fair game.
An example of what you were saying about standing up is:
If you got caught stealing at your local big ass store, so they banned you and sent you on your way, then you go to a lawyer to defend your right to keep stealing from the store.
When will some of you people realise that downloading warez IS illegal, no matter how much spin you put on it, and I hope that it never is legal (for obvious reasons), don't get me wrong, I LOVE warez and id be hard pressed without them, but as I said.... No matter how much you love it, it's still illegal.

There is a difference between someone who would go "protesting in the streets" and someone who would donate to a cause worth fighting for. Therefore "you my friend..." are a vehement hypocrite.

"them fighting back"...
nice analysys. Idiot. The problem here is not that they are fighting back, but the unethical... downright guerilla methods they are using to do it. I'm no paranoid, but if this is allowed to continue in 50 years we may truly find our freedom of speech questioned. If RIAA/MPAA is allowed to continue shutting down sites that carry torrents (which are in and of themselves not copyright information and therefore not illegal), what is to stop Microsoft from shutting down sites that mock it, or tobacco companies from shutting down www.thetruth.com? They also are carrying non-copyrighted information that hurt corporations' profits. It may be a far stretch, but if this trend of illegalizing damage to corporations continues, in some time we may find ourselves getting arrested for saying "fuck microsoft". Then again, let's ingore the fact, call it fair game, and welcome our corporate overlords.

To extend your example:
Imagine all grocery stores formed an organization called the GIAA (Grocery Industry Association of America), which after studying trends in shoplifting decided that it was mandatory for all grocery stores to install x-ray machines which would see your naked body. You may have nothing against it, but it is an invasion of privacy. Then, the GIAA involved the FBI, who studied all footage of grocery shopliftings, identified you by your photo, came to your house and confiscated your refridgerator and all baggy clothes you had. The GIAA would then file a lawsuit against you for $400,000 for every item you stole (as lost damages for giving an example to others), and placed you in prison for ~180 months.

I understand your point of view. You want to be able to download warez, while at the same time supporting whatever nazi tactic the RIAA make. Very nice. I believe you have just helped me find an example to the definition of "hypocrite".
There is one thing I'd pay $50,000 to see. Your facial expression when the FBI bust your door and inform you that they're there courtesy of the RIAA.

Accelleron, I have to add, although it has already been pointed out, both here and I'm sure by many members of your family and your friends, that you sir, are a fucking idiot.
Yes, you heard me correctly, a fucking idiot.
Please note, that you are trying to defend the people who are running the torrent website. By running it, they are aiding the distribution of pirated goods. When the MPAA or RIAA sues someone who merely downloads, then they are overstepping, but when they sue someone who distributes, or is a major aid in doing so, you can not seriously argue that they shouldn't be sued, unless you come to the conclusion that I did, and that is, you are a fucking idiot.
PS: In your intelligent post, you put 12 year old girls and people running a torrent distribution site in the same catergory. I think this in itself makes you clinically retarded.
Have a nice day, mr fucking idiot.
PS While I don't agree with many cases the RIAA (and now maybe the MPAA), this is not something I have a problem with. They took the risk, now they're going to face the consequences.

That doesn't make sense to what I said... I said that even though I download warez it's not like I belive I should be able to download all this shit for nothing, I do it because I can. I didn't mention one word of this "cause" of yours.
""them fighting back"...

Never heard such crap in my life i'm afraid. Guerilla tactics.... hey your doing illegal shit, whatever methods they use is fine by me, you need to remember... IT IS US WHO ARE IN THE WRONG BY DOWNLOADING, you can tell yourself a million times you are rebelling against the corporate whores still doesn't change the truth. Suprnova ect legal.... yeah.... according to their disclaimer, but its intent was to supply warez to the public, the way I see it is if you can get warez off it, even indirectly, it's illegal. Also, your Microsoft / tobacco example.... yeah, there breaking loads of copyright infringement laws, sigh . I fail to understand the connection between shutting down some sites that are connected to warez and freedom of speech... you truely are a paranoid individual
"To extend your example:

Well this doesnt count, everyone who uses torrent sites are there to, in our little example "shoplift", so if every person who walks into our stores are shoplifters... hell yeah get x-ray machines, and hell yeah go fuck them up and take all that shit back.
""I LOVE warez"

Yes, I do love Warez... I don't support the RIAA, i don't have a bumper sticker saying "I LOVE TEH RIAA", I just think its fair that they are trying to stop people stealing money from them (and don't even start on this point, out of everything youve downloaded, liked and not bought in your life, you wouldnt have bought any of it if warez hadent been availible to you?), they are doing there job... deal with it.
So stop being a little girl because you've lost your "source" (heeheehee) for warez and now your left usin kazaa++.

While I agree that in this case the methods are OK, the RIAA and MPAA have been sleezy assholes in the past, from the guy they sued for distributing LOTR RTOK months before it was even finished, to the many subpoena's they have ordered, many of which are illegitimate (If they do not have definitive proof, they have no right to issue a subpoena, but they do anyway, and bother innocent people). Or how about that time they dressed up (impersonated) in police/official gear and threatened a guy to make him take down a stand where he was selling CD's and Tape's (They do not have the authority to do this, they can sue the guy, but actually physically approaching him and impersonating an authority figure... I don't know how they didn't get sued for this).
And then there are all the suits that have been filed against THEM. What really, really, pisses me off, is that they pay off the ones they lose with their left over shit that they were planning on throwing away, they should be forced to use legal tender, not shit they didn't need anyways.
Anyways. Acceleron is an idiot.
And I hate the RIAA and MPAA.
