|
 |
I decided to open my desktop case to do some spring cleaning.
While cleaning I accidentally hit the cooler, but not with enough strength to bend the cooler's aluminum fins or anything close to that.
So I boot it up and check the temperatures(which are a bit lower, no surprise there) but now Real Temp has one of the cores "stuck" at 41º C. "Stuck" as in that's the minimum temperature of that core, versus the 35-37º C from the other 3 cores.
I ran a few rounds of Intel Burn Test to check the maximum temperatures and all of the cores reported the same max temp, 58º C.
So... is this a problem(or something that can become a problem, in the long term)?

No, shouldn't be a problem. You sure it's not actually under higher average load than the rest as well?

After 10 3GB IBT runs the max temperature is 58º C on all four cores.
Figured that I might have slightly dislocated the cooler's surface from the CPU surface when I hit it, and somehow "created" a tiny air bubble.
Too far-fetched?

No that's entirely possible. When it heats up, the metals bend a bit, making contact again, resulting in the same top temperature
Don't think it'll hurt anyway tbh

Anyway, I'll buy some new thermal paste tomorrow and eventually re-seat it.
Thanks for your help Werelds.

No problem, although I would recommend re-seating it at some point indeed. Never hurts anyway

*sigh*, I replaced three "Fractal Design silent fans" with the fastest Gentle Typhoons, and I managed to hit the Noctua heatsink. I have to re-seat the whole thing with fresh paste, but it's a chore to rip out the cables, open up the thing and all that (after having just replaced fans and shit).
