Check out the X Rebirth - Reveal Trailer
Not much is known yet apart from the press statement and the trailer, but it's sure looking good.
I'm a huge fan since X: BtF - played that as a young lad, and boy, did I fucking love it.
Also, this trailers is epic beyond words. Like Sabin said, instant buy - some developers still know how to create good stuff.
I'm so trying not to buy every game that makes me drool cos I ain't got the time for everything. This kind of release is very frustrating cos it messes with that policy using the old "exception" loophole, especially as there is literally nothing close to what it is.

hi... may i have a dirt showdown key please? thank you
Fantastic; I love the X-series, totally derp-free like the old times
A little TOO derp-free in the latest incarnation (X3-TC) I kinda lost interest in X for a while because of that... it stopped being a glorious space sim/trade and just ended up being a more a resource management business simulator

Yeah true, they tweaked a lot of things with TC, now we have just to keep our fingers crossed for the "radically new design" mentioned in the announcement..but I'm quite confident they won't fuck anything up
I would be interested in such a game, but I'm not familiar with any game like this. How's the gameplay in this series? Full of strategy mechanics? I've seen that most games with this theme are like that, but as I'm not into strategy games it's kind of a problem.

X and X2 were primarily Elite/Freelancer-esque space operas... buy/upgrade ships, take on missions, hunt bounties, trade goods, build stations for producing resources etc etc .. and were abso~fragging~lutely magnificent. X3 take the "station building" to a whole new level, sadly in a direction I wasn't overly comfortable with. The interface and gameplay used to be amazing, now it's a convoluted mess (IMO!) with massive reliance on custom scripting and setting up profitable businesses and trade routes for your fleet/empire. Building stations, setting routes, acquiring resources ... it was (again, IMO) a clusterfuck of micromanagement. Loads of people loved the new approach, but I just found it tiring
You don't have to pursue a trade or mercantile related path though as it's pretty open but on the other hand not getting a strong economy going will hamper the funds you have available for better ships (Unless you find some derelict vessel and get it running which is rare.) and of course upgrades/systems for said ship.
Lots of modifications to fine tune the game but as Sabin points out it's very script based and mods also often reflect this.
I enjoyed the game a bit but it does get very complex.
EDIT: Or instead of spending funds on ships for yourself having other ships and pilots paid and serving under you as that's also quite useful.
(Setting up elaborate trade paths and convoys can likely be done as well but that gets into micromanagement as Sabin pointed out.)
There is a campaign as well as a sandbox type of experience but I never got very far into the campaign so I can't comment much on how it works.
I'm one of those who didn't mind the complexity of the X3+TC.
It only needs to be more accessible. Let people buy the station, get a few freighters and get a steady income. But also allow others to really get into the micro of things in order to maximize the efficiency of the empire to perfection.

Agreed =)
I can't believe I'm actually pushing FOR "accessibility" but in the case of X3-X3TC; definitely. There should be options for both kinds of people; management and workers. I don't want to be an accounting clerk, so the heavy sim aspects of empire design and management just didn't really twig with me ... I play these games to be a worker, to be the merc, the trade runner. I wish there were automated options for setting up rudimentary trade systems (because from my experience, the economy stalled HARD unless the player was actively working to maintain it) that generated a nice - steady - stream of income, without forcing you to step out of the cockpit (or into hours upon hours of HEAVY scripting) in order to do it. If you WANT to dig deeper, then go ahead, the extensible scripting interface is beyond massive - you can practically rewrite the entire game from within it.
I'm well aware I'll be called a derp for this, but I don't care. Anyone who thinks I'm a derp is obviously middle-management in their 9-to-5, or has never played X3 and realised the massive complexity of it
.... though on the plus side, X3/X3-TC has quite simply THE most engaging and enjoyable space combat I've ever played, with visuals that - even today - rip the shit out of most rigs. The non-business side of the game is great (plot notwithstanding) and there are hundreds upon hundreds of new ships, weapons, upgrades, missions, planets, sectors, etc. There is nothing more rewarding than having a massive dogfight with two, heavily armed, pirates... only to eventually damage one so bad he warps out of the system, leaving his crippled friend behind. Then seeing the crippled pirate eject from his ship and take off in his escape pod, leaving you free to eject from yours and commandeer his ship.
THAT's exhilarating.

X is so awesome... I just love building an empire in space from scratch like that and sending AI squads around to patrol the sectors my stations are in and all that stuff.
Gimmeeeeh!!!
Likot Mosuskekim, Woodcutter cancels Sleep: Interrupted by Elephant.
This is for those that haven't yet discovered the epicness that is X; (basically just showcasing the visuals and the sort of ships/stations you can acquire/build)
I put X3.Gold.Edition-Unleashed to download. Is there anything I should know about installing the game, starting the game, stuff like this? Are there any patches for the gold edition? Hope I'll have patience to get into it and like it.

Both games (X3 Reunion and X3 Terran Conflict) that are in the Gold box are version 2.5. Reunion's last patch is 2.5, so you don't have to worry about that, instead you want to go here;
Is there a good beginners starting guide or something around for us derps? X3 is one of the few games I've actually bought, yet on the three or four times I've tried to get into it I've never quite gotten over the learning curve hump. I figure the announcement of a sequel is good enough reason for me to try one more time.
