is there any way i can play DLC from a usb drive? at the moment im using HDD1 but am seriously running out of room

no it's got to be in that directory with the other stuff. that's my understanding of it anyway.

you can move dlcs on usb sticks on non-jtag stuff, so why couldn't you with jtagged boxes?
