Hi guys,
I'm calling out to the IT security experts!
Here's the deal, the internet connection I'm working with is as follow, PC-->Proxy/Firewall-->Internet, so kinda classic you would think. The proxy is filtering and blocking access to a list of predefined website, it's also user/password protected, information which I obviously don't have, what I'm trying to achieve is obviously to bypass the proxy.
I made my homework and look into an http proxy or SSH tunneling, which seems like the most obvious options but unfortunately none of them are working, here's why.
It seems IT guys here are using what I learned is called security through obscurity, it means that everything in/out of the machine is blocked by default and all traffic is redirected through the proxy, this means that if I use PuttY to connect to a remote box running an SSH session or an HTTP proxy I simply can't since PuTTY would have to go through the proxy and I don't have the user/password details, so this is a no go.
Now I'm looking at two options, the first one is to get proxy details, I know they are stored on the machine, because after installing Firefox and selecting "use default system proxy" it was able to connect to the internet just fine, it means it reads the information from somewhere but couldn't find from where using Google, obviously I don't have admin rights :-/.
The second option would be to insert another proxy after the current one, so it would do PC-->Proxy (existing)-->Proxy(new)-->internet, so the existing proxy would only see the traffic coming from the new one and et voila! but I have no idea how to do that and have limited Linux skills, I do however own a dedicated Linux (Debian) box that I can use for this.
So any of you guys have ideas on how to work around this?
Thanks a lot

Yes I did and it didn't worked because by default all connection must go through the proxy, which is running on a random port, like for example common port like 22, 80, 443 which are usually always open are closed.
I found out what the proxy IP:PORT is but I still can't use putty for anything since I need a password to clear the proxy, which I don't have.
So to use Putty i need to find out where firefox is reading the info from but even if I did I can only imagine it's an encrypted file which won't much anyway, the second option seems more achievable but I couldn't find any viable options on how to do it.

in firefox check options -> advanced -> network -> parameters
there should be an automatic proxy configuration
if there is no configuration, it means it's definitely a transparent proxy
if it is a transparent proxy, there is no "password"
what does putty says exactly when you click open after filling ip and port?
