Prey for the Gods is a brutal journey set on a desolate frozen island, where your only chance of survival is to destroy the very gods you believe in.
In Prey for the Gods, you play a lone hero sent to the edge of a dying world to discover the mystery behind a never-ending winter. Arriving with only the clothes on your back, you must survive the colossal dangers that you encounter. To restore balance and reclaim the land from the brink, you will be faced with questions that not even a God knows the answer to.
This looks awesome!
But where did you get the information it's coming to PC/Mac? On the website there are like no information at all about this game. Besides that short text, the video and some screenshots. :O

This could turn out be a great homage, but also a sacrilege, let's hope it's the former. It surely is nice to have something like this on PC, the three guys who are making it will have a lot of work to do since mastering the engine is going to be the toughest boss battle.
Prey for the Gods is open world!
During our Kickstarter while Chien and Tim were able to get the pre-alpha build running on consoles. Chien was still actively working on getting our game to work as an open world.
Why open world?
For some people, open world may sound easy even a “no brainer” but depending on team size, and engine it can be a major hurdle. For three people? It’s definitely not something to take lightly. For us, we knew we wanted Prey for the Gods to take place on a massive island filled with impossible odds and one of them being the island itself. We want the player to see the vast landscapes and set out into the brave unknown.
Cool! So what does that mean for development?
A big reason people avoid open world development is to do with the sheer amount of work that’s required to build the levels. Thankfully, Tim has set up a system that allows multiple people to work in areas on the island and check them in without fear of overwriting each other’s work. This allows for flexibility, and an ability to move faster as large areas won’t need to be locked off. We’ve divided up the island in a number of locations so that we can better focus on them. Names like “frozen lake, shores of the dead, highlands, etc” are some areas we’ve concepted out and have begun laying out.
Ok cool. Soooo what else?!
- Elite Outfit, Heavy Outfit, Elite Pouch, Torch are modeled, textured and in game.
- Raven Outfit, and Wolf Outfit are concepted and in modeling state.
- Elite Grappling Hook, Wolf Skins, and Raven Skins are initially concepted
- “Shores of the Dead” is first pass in game.
- Began rehearsal and experimentation with music
- Added additional states to our climbing. Revising the core locomotion and making it feel better.
- Trying out new lighting to help the player character colors be a little more saturated.
- Second boss first pass playable in game
- Implemented cave system into open world
- New tools for world building
What are we working on now?
We wrapped the Kickstarter, laid out the focus for the rest of the year and are pushing forward on those goals. Currently, we’re laying out locations on the island and iterating on the 2nd Boss. We have the 3rd boss prototyped and have some ideas mocked up up for the 4th and 5th bosses. Even in this early state, it’s very exciting and we can’t wait for our first live stand up on Twitch! Hope to see you there!
Wha!? Why are you now PRAEY for the Gods!?
Oh yea that...so we didn’t want to do this but we had to change our game name from Prey for the Gods to Praey for the Gods. Thankfully we get to keep the logo but we will spell it “Praey for the Gods”. Honestly, we could make this entire newsletter about our thoughts on this. Trademark law is what we were dealing with and we aren’t under any NDA so we can state the opposition in this situation, Bethesda/Zenimax.
Well I guess Zeni is being overly aggressive as usual, guess a US court system might have given them a win though for just having the same starting word even if "Prey" is a common single word that shouldn't be copyright and this isn't called Prey: For the Gods or anything.
Still if adding/inserting a single letter is all that is needed that's not too bad I suppose.
EDIT: Nodrim already summarized it all in the above post while I was writing this.
No Matter Studios has announced that its Shadow of the Colossus inspired title, Praey for the Gods, has been delayed to 2018. According to the team, this delay will give the team more time to continue and refine the game’s mechanics.
No Matter Studios also revealed that the Closed Alpha testing for Praey for the Gods will also take place next year.
